Deanne's Story:

I had been working out for over two years in a large group setting. I really enjoyed the social aspect, and found myself really motivated by the coach and other athletes. However, I could not keep up with the members who were mostly half my age. I was looking for a smaller group setting with people my own age, and/or a trainer who would focus on my personal capabilities. The idea of the PACK sounded perfect because it would allow the trainer to help me work within the limitations of my age, my asthma, and still allow me the social interaction that I loved so much.
I was looking for a studio-setting to work out with two of my friends. I needed a trainer that would motivate and push me, yet allow me to work at a level acceptable for my age and condition. And perhaps have a little fun at the same time. But to be even more honest, I wanted to get into normal-sized clothes, to have a selection at the mall, and to blend into a crowd, rather than stand out because of my size.
The three of us found the PACK group training at Fitness Together via Groupon. It has been such a positive experience. Our trainer, pushed us to perform to our max and kept it fun. For me, the training was just one tool on my weight-loss journey, but a very important one. While limiting calories, eliminating sugar and caffeine from my diet and religiously documenting my intake, I continued to push through the training when it was very, very difficult. I was often sore, but it was a great sore! And I continued because it was FUN! Now that I’ve lost nearly 40 pounds*, I love how I can feel the muscles below my skin and feel toned, rather than flabby had I not been motivated by Fitness Together.
I cannot figure out the one exact reason why training at FT that works for me. It is truly a variety of reasons. Number one, the atmosphere is positive and fun. I feel like a winner every time I walk out of a workout! Number two, I have met some lovely people who have encouraged and supported me. Number three, the workouts are varied and in a climate-controlled atmosphere, which may sound silly, but when you suffer with asthma it makes a big difference, and I appreciate it very much. Number four, the people. Number five, my brain was ready. Number six, the people.
Of course I have recommended FT Lakewood to others! Unfortunately, many of the people I know are LAZY and make excuses, which is frustrating. But I continue to talk about it. You have to get to a place in your head to make a commitment to exercise, and it is something that too many people don’t want to think about.
