What are some important things to look for in a running shoe?
May 20, 2014
"The best way to get the proper shoe is to start with getting fitted properly. Do you have a high arch, normal arch or flat feet? Do you supinate, pronate, overpronate, or are you lucky enough to be neutral? After that, always invest in good insoles! A good insole should last longer than the running shoe itself as the insoles the companies put in the shoes often are worthless."
"I am admittedly, and unabashedly, a minimalist shoe guy. But I also think they are not for everyone. If your mechanics aren't great or you have previous running related injuries you may need different shoes. But fully two-thirds of runners will get injured in a given year so it's not as if the current "state of the art" shoes are solving the injury issue.
"No matter the shoe, running volume should increase no more than 10% per week. There should be weeks of decreased running volume and you need to strength train and do mobility work in addition to just running."

"There are a variety of factors to look for when looking for a running shoe. One should go to a running store that analyzes how you run. From there they will help you choose a running shoe that is best suited for your running style, the length and width of your foot, support and how often you're going to be running."
