How do I know if I'm working out enough?

"To truly know if you are working out enough you need to be setting short-term goals. Set those goals and once you achieve them set new ones! At the end of the day if you are working out and feeling good about yourself you are most likely doing a great job!"

"When starting a fitness program, you want to base it on the results of a full fitness assessment that shows not only weight but strength, flexibility, body fat, cardiovascular condition, and so on.  Work off this program for six to eight weeks without changing the basis of the program, then re-assess!

"If you've progressed in the areas that you were looking to improve, you should advance your program to enable your body to continue to progress rather than adding more time to your weekly workout schedule.  On the other hand, if you see little to minimal results, this may be the time to increase your frequency of strength training or add in additional cardiovascular training.

"The key to continuing to get results is following a specific program for a set period of time, then assessing the results. If you don't stick with a set program for any length of time, you'll hit a plateau quicker and you will not know what to change in order to get yourself through this plateau."

"I can think of four possible indications that you're not working out enough, or working out hard enough.

"You aren't seeing any results.

"Your heart rate never goes that high: In order to burn calories and build endurance, your heart rate should be between 65% and 85% of its maximum during most of your workout.

"You don’t have to physically strain to get it done. You are not exhausting the muscle.

"You still look cute after your workout."
