I weighed 292 pounds, I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, I was dealing with constant knee and low back pain, and I simply felt sluggish and achy on a daily basis. At 35 years old, this was not the existence I had imagined for myself. With my extensive family history of diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure, I was terrified of the future I was creating for myself.

    Making the phone call to Joe at Fitness Together was a life-changing decision. After the first few months, my blood sugar level was well within the normal range, my knees and back were no longer hurting, and I felt much more flexible and energetic. I could feel the old me coming back to life! After a little over a year, I have lost over 76 pounds and 41 inches* – much more than I ever expected. I have run four 5k races and training for my first 10k race. My friends and family are amazed by my transformation - both physically and mentally.

    I came to Fitness Together as an unhealthy and overstressed person. I was in a downwards spiral and needed a lifestyle course correction. I also knew that I needed some hard-core support to turn around. My initial intent was to get a “jump-start” and then transition into a routine on my own. It was during one intense workout where I was on the last circuit and struggling to finish when the trainer looked at me and said “at this point it’s all mental, not physical” and that’s when it hit me, this was not just a program to get in shape, I had found a great outlet to manage stress and work-out my mental muscles too. I love showing up and having the entire workout pre-planned and ready to go. I enjoy the varied workouts to keep things interesting and fresh. I like the solitude of a private environment, but more importantly I value the tough love no-nonsense push from the trainer to get me to the next level of performance.

    After being active most of my life, I had fallen into a sedentary lifestyle and lacked motivation to get restarted. I needed something to get me going again. I decided to dust off an old goal to complete a marathon and started looking for help to get me there.

    I found Lenny and the staff at Fitness Together - Waxhaw. We reviewed my goals and created a personalized training schedule tailored to me. The professional trainers did more than just get me restarted; they helped me establish a fitness routine that became part of my daily activities. Seven months later, I completed my first marathon. Two years later, I have completed 5 marathons and have qualified for the Boston Marathon. I’m still training and continue to improve my running and overall fitness every day.

    Lost over 100lbs in 9 1/2 months*

    I was scheduled to have my gastric bypass surgery, and I needed to establish maintenance and fitness program.  Knowing that I was going to spend serious cash on the operation, I wanted to be successful as much as possible so I hired a professional trainer.  I contacted Joe and after our first trial runs, I decided to enroll in a complete package.  Well, after two months of working out with Joe and JT, I was unqualified to have my surgery, I was 40 pounds lighter and in good shape*. I decided then to take the money that I was going to spend on the bypass surgery and continue on with Joe.  Eight months later and an additional 60 pounds down for a total of 100 pounds lost*, I am in better shape than when I left the military over 25 years ago*.  Joe, JT, and Gwen were patient, consistent and very motivating which allowed me to be successful at my weight loss….My new way of life.     At 51 years old I found myself as overweight and out of shape as I could be.  I was convinced that I was too far gone to fix the problem.  I decided I'd give it a shot and called Fitness Together.  I was overweight, completely sedentary and had a hip replacement.  Joe said that it didn't matter where I was when I started, just as long as I started.

    That's exactly what I did.  Now I've lost 125lbs and bunches of inches.*  I can do pushups now!

    Joe, Mike and Ray offered only encouragement and always made me feel my goals were attainable.

    So just what has Marsha done???  Lost 126lbs.*  Lost 16 inches off of her waist.*  Lost 19 inches off her hips.*  Has gone from not being able to do 1 pushup to now being able to do 42 in a row.  Marsha is in her 50's with a total hip replacement.  She has proven that there are no excuses! *

  • Patty Kessiah
    Certified Trainer

    Patty earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Fitness from UNCC in 2005. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2001, earning certifications from ISSA, ACSM, and ACE. Patty is also a certified TRX instructor. While attending college, she began training clients in their homes. After graduating, Patty trained clients at Fitness Together studios in FL, NC, and MD. What she loves most about being a personal trainer is seeing a client reach a goal they once thought was impossible, whether the goal is weight loss, gaining strength, sport specific, or just being able to pick up their grandchild without pain.

     

    When Patty is not training clients at the studio, you can find her at the gym, running down the side of the road somewhere, at the park or the pool with her boys Henry and George, or indulging in her guilty pleasure, binging on Netflix shows.

    Owner, certified personal trainer

    Lenny is the owner of Fitness Together in Waxhaw. He has a great passion for physical fitness and really enjoys the challenge and excitement of working with clients to help them reach their objectives. “Our client’s goals are my goals and I take great pride in that”. His approach to overall wellness, nutrition and body conditioning is exemplified in his motivation and dedication to fitness. “Working out is not just about your body, it’s an enrichment of the mind and soul as well”. Lenny is married and has two sons and recently moved to the Waxhaw area from New Jersey. He has multiple Personal Training certifications as well as being a certified Sports Nutrition Consultant.  Lenny played Division 1 soccer and earned his Bachelors degree from the University of South Florida. In his free time Lenny enjoys doing anything sports-related with his 2 boys.

  • Lucas Gaddy
    Exercise Specialist/Exercise Scientist

    Lucas graduated from Appalachian State University in 2014 with a BS degree in Health Promotion and a Minor in Psychology.  In 2015 Lucas became a part of the Matthew's team.  He has always been actively involved in sports and fitness since a young age.  Since then, Lucas has obtained his Personal Training Certification through the WITS Program.  He continues to pursue certifications in similar fields to be the best, well-rounded trainer around.  He believes that incorporating barbell exercises along with more modern forms of exercise keeps the workouts fun and exciting!

  • Jeron Mosteller is a certified personal trainer

    Jeron Mosteller
    Manager/Personal Trainer

    Jeron joined the Fitness Together Southpark team in Fall of 2013. Originally from North Carolina, Jeron attended UNC Charlotte where he obtained a degree in Exercise Science, a minor in Interdisciplinary Health studies, and a concentration in Strength and Conditioning. He is also an ACSM certified Health and Fitness Specialist.

    Jeron has been a personal trainer for more than 8 years now; directing boot camps, strength building, athletic coaching, and even yoga! He has spent time living in the Caymen Islands after graduation where he also worked as a personal trainer. Long term he wants to own and operate his own facility.

    Jeron's training methods incorporate free weights, body weight exercise, and HIIT. His favorite part of training is developing a relationship with clients, watching them change and grow (larger or smaller) along the way

    Are you new to working out?  Has it been years since you’ve touched a dumbbell? Everyone has to start somewhere and you can trust Garrett to make your transition towards a healthier life easier and more successful. 

     

    Garrett is originally from Maryland where he obtained a BS in Exercise and Sports Science and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (to be conferred August 2017). He integrates his knowledge of human physiology and rehabilitation science to design safe and effective exercise programs.  Fitness Together’s private suites compliment Garrett’s personalized style of training.  He prides himself in providing an exceptional personal training experience that combines enthusiasm, knowledge and professionalism.  

     

    In his spare time Garrett enjoys hiking, golfing, and reading.

    Zach Prevette
    Personal Trainer

    Zach is originally from Winston-Salem, NC. He moved to the Charlotte area almost 8 years ago to pursue an education within the exercise science realm. Several years later he had an NASM certification in personal training and a B.S. in Exercise Science from UNC Charlotte.

    He is more than equipped to help you achieve any of your health and fitness goals. He understands not everyone wants to walk across the Olympia stage; some just want to be able to play with their kids in the backyard. This individualism is what drives him. He respects the fact that everyone deals with different drawbacks in life and sometimes physical capabilities hinder the flow of a desired lifestyle. He loves to help, motivate and inspire others; that's his passion. He wants to give back to others and help them achieve what he has dedicated a quarter of his life to.

    Hi. I'm Joe and fitness is my passion. I started working out and lifting weights in the basement of our house when I was 12, and I can honestly say it has changed my life. It not only gave me the athletic skills to be competitive but it also gave me confidence and discipline that has transferred over into other areas of my life. I became interested in nutrition shortly after starting to work out, so I decided to major in Nutrition with a minor in Exercise Science. I graduated from Virginia Tech in the fall of 1994 with those degrees. Needless to say, I’m a big Hokie fan! I started personal training while in college and obtained certifications with NFPT, NASM and APEX Nutrition Systems. I left the field after several years to pursue a more stable career in corporate America, but I always missed it.

    I ended up at another Fitness Together just part time to once again do what I loved. After a three years there, I took a chance and left corporate America to open my own studio here in the Steele Creek area in 2008. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I once again get to do a job that I truly love. I get no greater satisfaction than helping someone to change their life and achieve their health & fitness goals.

    Brittany graduated from Florida State University in 2010 with a B.S. degree in Dietetics.  She began teaching group exercise and wellness classes at the FSU student recreation center during her junior year, and has been passionate about helping others improve their fitness ever since.  She relocated to Charlotte in early 2013, and has enjoyed working as part of the Fitness Together family since July 2013.  When Brittany isn’t training, you can usually find her rooting for her FSU Seminoles and the Carolina Panthers!

    Aaron Forinash
    Owner/Exercise Physiologist

    Aaron graduated from Marshall University in 2005 with a BA in Exercise Physiology and Adult Fitness. Upon graduating, he returned to his hometown, Beckley West Virginia, to work in various cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.  He is also certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has spent time concentrating on sport-specific training for elite athletes.  Aaron joined the Matthews FT team in 2006, and was promoted to Branch Manager in late 2010 and took over as owner in 2015.  He enjoys designing unique and state-of-the-art exercise protocols specific to each clients needs.  Through advanced cardiac, strength and flexibility programs, he believes each client can improve the efficiency of their workouts and gain better results from their experience at Fitness Together.

    At 51 years old I found myself as overweight and out of shape as I could be.  I was convinced that I was too far gone to fix the problem.  I decided I'd give it a shot and called Fitness Together.  I was overweight, completely sedentary and had a hip replacement.  Joe said that it didn't matter where I was when I started, just as long as I started.

    That's exactly what I did.  Now I've lost 125lbs and bunches of inches.*  I can do pushups now!

    Joe, Mike and Ray offered only encouragement and always made me feel my goals were attainable.

    So just what has Marsha done???  Lost 126lbs.*  Lost 16 inches off of her waist.*  Lost 19 inches off her hips.*  Has gone from not being able to do 1 pushup to now being able to do 42 in a row.  Marsha is in her 50's with a total hip replacement.  She has proven that there are no excuses! *

  • Patty Kessiah
    Certified Trainer

    Patty earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Fitness from UNCC in 2005. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2001, earning certifications from ISSA, ACSM, and ACE. Patty is also a certified TRX instructor. While attending college, she began training clients in their homes. After graduating, Patty trained clients at Fitness Together studios in FL, NC, and MD. What she loves most about being a personal trainer is seeing a client reach a goal they once thought was impossible, whether the goal is weight loss, gaining strength, sport specific, or just being able to pick up their grandchild without pain.

     

    When Patty is not training clients at the studio, you can find her at the gym, running down the side of the road somewhere, at the park or the pool with her boys Henry and George, or indulging in her guilty pleasure, binging on Netflix shows.

  • Lenny Turi
    Owner, certified personal trainer

    Lenny is the owner of Fitness Together in Waxhaw. He has a great passion for physical fitness and really enjoys the challenge and excitement of working with clients to help them reach their objectives. “Our client’s goals are my goals and I take great pride in that”. His approach to overall wellness, nutrition and body conditioning is exemplified in his motivation and dedication to fitness. “Working out is not just about your body, it’s an enrichment of the mind and soul as well”. Lenny is married and has two sons and recently moved to the Waxhaw area from New Jersey. He has multiple Personal Training certifications as well as being a certified Sports Nutrition Consultant.  Lenny played Division 1 soccer and earned his Bachelors degree from the University of South Florida. In his free time Lenny enjoys doing anything sports-related with his 2 boys.

  • Lucas Gaddy
    Exercise Specialist/Exercise Scientist

    Lucas graduated from Appalachian State University in 2014 with a BS degree in Health Promotion and a Minor in Psychology.  In 2015 Lucas became a part of the Matthew's team.  He has always been actively involved in sports and fitness since a young age.  Since then, Lucas has obtained his Personal Training Certification through the WITS Program.  He continues to pursue certifications in similar fields to be the best, well-rounded trainer around.  He believes that incorporating barbell exercises along with more modern forms of exercise keeps the workouts fun and exciting!

  • Jeron Mosteller is a certified personal trainer

    Jeron Mosteller
    Manager/Personal Trainer

    Jeron joined the Fitness Together Southpark team in Fall of 2013. Originally from North Carolina, Jeron attended UNC Charlotte where he obtained a degree in Exercise Science, a minor in Interdisciplinary Health studies, and a concentration in Strength and Conditioning. He is also an ACSM certified Health and Fitness Specialist.

    Jeron has been a personal trainer for more than 8 years now; directing boot camps, strength building, athletic coaching, and even yoga! He has spent time living in the Caymen Islands after graduation where he also worked as a personal trainer. Long term he wants to own and operate his own facility.

    Jeron's training methods incorporate free weights, body weight exercise, and HIIT. His favorite part of training is developing a relationship with clients, watching them change and grow (larger or smaller) along the way

  • Garrett Foland
    Trainer, Physical Therapy

    Are you new to working out?  Has it been years since you’ve touched a dumbbell? Everyone has to start somewhere and you can trust Garrett to make your transition towards a healthier life easier and more successful. 

     

    Garrett is originally from Maryland where he obtained a BS in Exercise and Sports Science and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (to be conferred August 2017). He integrates his knowledge of human physiology and rehabilitation science to design safe and effective exercise programs.  Fitness Together’s private suites compliment Garrett’s personalized style of training.  He prides himself in providing an exceptional personal training experience that combines enthusiasm, knowledge and professionalism.  

     

    In his spare time Garrett enjoys hiking, golfing, and reading.

    Zach Prevette
    Personal Trainer

    Zach is originally from Winston-Salem, NC. He moved to the Charlotte area almost 8 years ago to pursue an education within the exercise science realm. Several years later he had an NASM certification in personal training and a B.S. in Exercise Science from UNC Charlotte.

    He is more than equipped to help you achieve any of your health and fitness goals. He understands not everyone wants to walk across the Olympia stage; some just want to be able to play with their kids in the backyard. This individualism is what drives him. He respects the fact that everyone deals with different drawbacks in life and sometimes physical capabilities hinder the flow of a desired lifestyle. He loves to help, motivate and inspire others; that's his passion. He wants to give back to others and help them achieve what he has dedicated a quarter of his life to.

    Hi. I'm Joe and fitness is my passion. I started working out and lifting weights in the basement of our house when I was 12, and I can honestly say it has changed my life. It not only gave me the athletic skills to be competitive but it also gave me confidence and discipline that has transferred over into other areas of my life. I became interested in nutrition shortly after starting to work out, so I decided to major in Nutrition with a minor in Exercise Science. I graduated from Virginia Tech in the fall of 1994 with those degrees. Needless to say, I’m a big Hokie fan! I started personal training while in college and obtained certifications with NFPT, NASM and APEX Nutrition Systems. I left the field after several years to pursue a more stable career in corporate America, but I always missed it.

    I ended up at another Fitness Together just part time to once again do what I loved. After a three years there, I took a chance and left corporate America to open my own studio here in the Steele Creek area in 2008. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I once again get to do a job that I truly love. I get no greater satisfaction than helping someone to change their life and achieve their health & fitness goals.

    Nutrition Coach/Personal Trainer

    Brittany graduated from Florida State University in 2010 with a B.S. degree in Dietetics.  She began teaching group exercise and wellness classes at the FSU student recreation center during her junior year, and has been passionate about helping others improve their fitness ever since.  She relocated to Charlotte in early 2013, and has enjoyed working as part of the Fitness Together family since July 2013.  When Brittany isn’t training, you can usually find her rooting for her FSU Seminoles and the Carolina Panthers!

  • Aaron Forinash Branch Manager Fitness Together Matthews North Carolina

    Aaron Forinash
    Owner/Exercise Physiologist

    Aaron graduated from Marshall University in 2005 with a BA in Exercise Physiology and Adult Fitness. Upon graduating, he returned to his hometown, Beckley West Virginia, to work in various cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.  He is also certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has spent time concentrating on sport-specific training for elite athletes.  Aaron joined the Matthews FT team in 2006, and was promoted to Branch Manager in late 2010 and took over as owner in 2015.  He enjoys designing unique and state-of-the-art exercise protocols specific to each clients needs.  Through advanced cardiac, strength and flexibility programs, he believes each client can improve the efficiency of their workouts and gain better results from their experience at Fitness Together.
