I weighed 292 pounds, I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, I was dealing with constant knee and low back pain, and I simply felt sluggish and achy on a daily basis. At 35 years old, this was not the existence I had imagined for myself. With my extensive family history of diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure, I was terrified of the future I was creating for myself.

    Making the phone call to Joe at Fitness Together was a life-changing decision. After the first few months, my blood sugar level was well within the normal range, my knees and back were no longer hurting, and I felt much more flexible and energetic. I could feel the old me coming back to life! After a little over a year, I have lost over 76 pounds and 41 inches* – much more than I ever expected. She kept saying how great her experience was and she was looking amazing after losing weight since starting training with a Fitness Together personal trainer.* I had gained weight because I had not worked out in a while and decided that I needed help.   • Zach Marzo
    Certified Trainer

    Zach is a Certified Fitness Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).  He received his bachelors degree in accounting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC).  He went on to complete his Masters of Accountancy at UNCC.  While attending college, Zach started training clients at his home gym and realized how passionate he was about fitness and impacting people's lives.

    Zach is very passionate about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle.  Zach stands by the motto, "You can't out train a bad diet."  He preaches balance and portion control.  Zach truly believes there is more to training than losing weight.  "It's about changing yourself, your mentality and your confidence.  You train to become stronger inside and outside of the gym."  Outside of training Zach, is a bodybuilder and is looking to compete in his first physique show in 2016.  "When I'm not training clients, I'm training myself.  I eat sleep and breathe fitness.  It's what I love."  When talking to Zach, you can see his enthusiasm and passion for nutrition and fitness.  He truly believes that fitness isn't just about building a physique.  It's about building a strong mind.  He plans on continuing his education in nutrition in the future.

    Aaron Forinash
    Owner/Exercise Physiologist

    Aaron graduated from Marshall University in 2005 with a BA in Exercise Physiology and Adult Fitness. Upon graduating, he returned to his hometown, Beckley West Virginia, to work in various cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.  He is also certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has spent time concentrating on sport-specific training for elite athletes.  Aaron joined the Matthews FT team in 2006, and was promoted to Branch Manager in late 2010 and took over as owner in 2015.  He enjoys designing unique and state-of-the-art exercise protocols specific to each clients needs.  Through advanced cardiac, strength and flexibility programs, he believes each client can improve the efficiency of their workouts and gain better results from their experience at Fitness Together.

  • Patty Kessiah
    Certified Trainer

    Patty earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Fitness from UNCC in 2005. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2001, earning certifications from ISSA, ACSM, and ACE. Patty is also a certified TRX instructor. While attending college, she began training clients in their homes. After graduating, Patty trained clients at Fitness Together studios in FL, NC, and MD. What she loves most about being a personal trainer is seeing a client reach a goal they once thought was impossible, whether the goal is weight loss, gaining strength, sport specific, or just being able to pick up their grandchild without pain.

    When Patty is not training clients at the studio, you can find her at the gym, running down the side of the road somewhere, at the park or the pool with her boys Henry and George, or indulging in her guilty pleasure, binging on Netflix shows.

    Exercise Scientist/Exercise Specialist

    Alyssa relocated to Charlotte in January 2016 from Michigan. She graduated from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO with a BS in Exercise science in 2015. In college, Alyssa was a member of the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Ice hockey team.  While competing at the highest collegiate level, she set the school record for points scored in a career.   Training at the collegiate level exposed Alyssa to different strengthening techniques and awarded her with the knowledge to implement those techniques into the training regimens she designs.Currently, Alyssa is pursuing a BS in Nursing from Chamberlain University in hopes to become an orthopedic nurse.

  • Jennifer Hohenberger
    Director of Client Experience/Exercise Specialist

    Jennifer relocated to Charlotte, with her husband and kids (ages 6 and 10) from New York in January 2015.  She volunteers at her daughters’ school and has coached Girls on the Run.   Having had a long career in the hospitality industry, Jennifer holds a bachelor degree in Culinary arts and Hotel Restaurant management.   Prior to becoming a person trainer, she has instructed nutrition and cooking classes to young adults with special needs.

    She has been an avid exerciser for over 20 years and has always had a great passion for exercise. Recently she was given the opportunity to follow her dream in becoming a person trainer.  Helping others achieve their goals, brings her great joy.  

    She is certified through Nation Association of Sports Medicine as a person trainer. She continues to pursue other certifications to grow in her field. Jennifer believes that “Keeping your body healthy is the best reward you can give yourself” & “Don’t compare yourself to others, compare yourself to who you were yesterday.”

    Certified Personal Trainer

    Hello, my name is Chelsea Joyner and I  joined the Fitness Together team in July of 2017. I was born and raised in Clover, South Carolina. I was a runner in high school and that sparked my interest in becoming an Exercise Science major at Winthrop University. While in undergrad I worked in campus recreation and had a mentor that encouraged me to become a certified personal trainer in 2013. In doing so, I discovered a passion of mine and started working with students and faculty/staff at the university. I learned a lot during my undergraduate career and wanted to further my education. I went on to graduate school at the University of Mississippi, Go Rebels!  I earned my master degree in Exercise Science and supervised personal trainers and group fitness instructors who worked in The Department of Campus Recreation at Ole Miss. During my time at Ole Miss I was training clients and teaching circuit style group fitness classes. Fitness and wellness play a huge role in my personal life and I love spreading my interests to others looking to achieve goals.

    I have worked with clients who were in high school up to the older adult population. Research was a huge part of my graduate studies and I read articles frequently to stay up to date. Ultimately I love interacting with my clients and assisting them in reaching their fitness goals. I am excited to be a trainer at Fitness Together!

    Lucas graduated from Appalachian State University in 2014 with a BS degree in Health Promotion and a Minor in Psychology.  In 2015 Lucas became a part of the Matthew's team.  He has always been actively involved in sports and fitness since a young age.  Since then, Lucas has obtained his Personal Training Certification through the WITS Program.  He continues to pursue certifications in similar fields to be the best, well-rounded trainer around.  He believes that incorporating barbell exercises along with more modern forms of exercise keeps the workouts fun and exciting!

His certifications include yoga, pilates, martial arts, and weight training.  Carlos’ background provides him with the tools necessary to work with all clients. It also allows him to introduce his clients to various styles of fitness training, which always keeps the workouts new and interesting. 

    Having a personality that people gravitate to makes Carlos’ chosen profession as trainer ideal!  His goal is to see people succeed at their goal.  His workouts are focused, varied, and professional with a twist of fun included!  “Always learning” is what Carlos prides himself on.

    My love for fitness started 5 years ago, at age 42 when I received an alarming diagnoses from my doctor. For years to took my health for granted, and my bad habits finally caught up with me.  I needed to change my attitude and make lifestyle changes if I wanted to live a longer life.  I started bodybuilding to stay accountable because bodybuilding requires a lifestyle of regular exercise and good nutrition.  Within 6 months I was healthier, and became an undefeated National Level Figure competitor.  By age 47 I had won 3 Figure Overalls, 3 Masters Overalls, rate 5th at the North Americans, and at age 46 I won the prestigious Arnold Classic Master Figure Overall.  My health and wellness journey has motivated me to share what I’ve learned, inspire my clients, and assist them in understanding the value of regular, progressive exercise coupled with good nutrition, as well as coaching and supporting healthy lifestyle choices.     Brandon received a BS in Nutrition and minor in Exercise science at Western Carolina University. He is certified through EXOS and has been in the personal training field for 3 years.

        I have been into fitness since a young age, as I played sports from youth up to college. My passion is to help people reach their goals and provide them with the knowledge and training that will enhance their lifestyle.  I have worked with individuals of all ages and love the setting here at Fitness Together. One of my main focus points is proper technique and posture, as I believe it is very important in preventing injury and negative stress.  In my free time I enjoy working out, spending time with family and friends, sports, and studying for further certifications.

    Zach is very passionate about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle.  Zach stands by the motto, "You can't out train a bad diet."  He preaches balance and portion control.  Zach truly believes there is more to training than losing weight.  "It's about changing yourself, your mentality and your confidence.  You train to become stronger inside and outside of the gym."  Outside of training Zach, is a bodybuilder and is looking to compete in his first physique show in 2016.  "When I'm not training clients, I'm training myself.  I eat sleep and breathe fitness.  It's what I love."  When talking to Zach, you can see his enthusiasm and passion for nutrition and fitness.  He truly believes that fitness isn't just about building a physique.  It's about building a strong mind.  He plans on continuing his education in nutrition in the future.

  • Aaron Forinash Branch Manager Fitness Together Matthews North Carolina

    Aaron Forinash
    Owner/Exercise Physiologist

    Aaron graduated from Marshall University in 2005 with a BA in Exercise Physiology and Adult Fitness. Upon graduating, he returned to his hometown, Beckley West Virginia, to work in various cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.  He is also certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has spent time concentrating on sport-specific training for elite athletes.  Aaron joined the Matthews FT team in 2006, and was promoted to Branch Manager in late 2010 and took over as owner in 2015.  He enjoys designing unique and state-of-the-art exercise protocols specific to each clients needs.  Through advanced cardiac, strength and flexibility programs, he believes each client can improve the efficiency of their workouts and gain better results from their experience at Fitness Together.

  • Patty Kessiah
    Certified Trainer

    Patty earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Fitness from UNCC in 2005. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2001, earning certifications from ISSA, ACSM, and ACE. Patty is also a certified TRX instructor. While attending college, she began training clients in their homes. After graduating, Patty trained clients at Fitness Together studios in FL, NC, and MD. What she loves most about being a personal trainer is seeing a client reach a goal they once thought was impossible, whether the goal is weight loss, gaining strength, sport specific, or just being able to pick up their grandchild without pain.

    When Patty is not training clients at the studio, you can find her at the gym, running down the side of the road somewhere, at the park or the pool with her boys Henry and George, or indulging in her guilty pleasure, binging on Netflix shows.

  • Alyssa West
    Exercise Scientist/Exercise Specialist

    Alyssa relocated to Charlotte in January 2016 from Michigan. She graduated from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO with a BS in Exercise science in 2015. In college, Alyssa was a member of the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Ice hockey team.  While competing at the highest collegiate level, she set the school record for points scored in a career.   Training at the collegiate level exposed Alyssa to different strengthening techniques and awarded her with the knowledge to implement those techniques into the training regimens she designs.Currently, Alyssa is pursuing a BS in Nursing from Chamberlain University in hopes to become an orthopedic nurse.

  • Jennifer Hohenberger
    Director of Client Experience/Exercise Specialist

    Jennifer relocated to Charlotte, with her husband and kids (ages 6 and 10) from New York in January 2015.  She volunteers at her daughters’ school and has coached Girls on the Run.   Having had a long career in the hospitality industry, Jennifer holds a bachelor degree in Culinary arts and Hotel Restaurant management.   Prior to becoming a person trainer, she has instructed nutrition and cooking classes to young adults with special needs.

    She has been an avid exerciser for over 20 years and has always had a great passion for exercise. Recently she was given the opportunity to follow her dream in becoming a person trainer.  Helping others achieve their goals, brings her great joy.  

    She is certified through Nation Association of Sports Medicine as a person trainer. She continues to pursue other certifications to grow in her field. Jennifer believes that “Keeping your body healthy is the best reward you can give yourself” & “Don’t compare yourself to others, compare yourself to who you were yesterday.”

    Certified Personal Trainer

    Hello, my name is Chelsea Joyner and I  joined the Fitness Together team in July of 2017. I was born and raised in Clover, South Carolina. I was a runner in high school and that sparked my interest in becoming an Exercise Science major at Winthrop University. While in undergrad I worked in campus recreation and had a mentor that encouraged me to become a certified personal trainer in 2013. In doing so, I discovered a passion of mine and started working with students and faculty/staff at the university. I learned a lot during my undergraduate career and wanted to further my education. I went on to graduate school at the University of Mississippi, Go Rebels!  I earned my master degree in Exercise Science and supervised personal trainers and group fitness instructors who worked in The Department of Campus Recreation at Ole Miss. During my time at Ole Miss I was training clients and teaching circuit style group fitness classes. Fitness and wellness play a huge role in my personal life and I love spreading my interests to others looking to achieve goals.

    I have worked with clients who were in high school up to the older adult population. Research was a huge part of my graduate studies and I read articles frequently to stay up to date. Ultimately I love interacting with my clients and assisting them in reaching their fitness goals. I am excited to be a trainer at Fitness Together!

    Exercise Specialist/Exercise Scientist

    Lucas graduated from Appalachian State University in 2014 with a BS degree in Health Promotion and a Minor in Psychology.  In 2015 Lucas became a part of the Matthew's team.  He has always been actively involved in sports and fitness since a young age.  Since then, Lucas has obtained his Personal Training Certification through the WITS Program.  He continues to pursue certifications in similar fields to be the best, well-rounded trainer around.  He believes that incorporating barbell exercises along with more modern forms of exercise keeps the workouts fun and exciting!

    My love for fitness started 5 years ago, at age 42 when I received an alarming diagnoses from my doctor. For years to took my health for granted, and my bad habits finally caught up with me.  I needed to change my attitude and make lifestyle changes if I wanted to live a longer life.  I started bodybuilding to stay accountable because bodybuilding requires a lifestyle of regular exercise and good nutrition.  Within 6 months I was healthier, and became an undefeated National Level Figure competitor.  By age 47 I had won 3 Figure Overalls, 3 Masters Overalls, rate 5th at the North Americans, and at age 46 I won the prestigious Arnold Classic Master Figure Overall.  My health and wellness journey has motivated me to share what I’ve learned, inspire my clients, and assist them in understanding the value of regular, progressive exercise coupled with good nutrition, as well as coaching and supporting healthy lifestyle choices. I embrace a positive approach which is proven to promote lasting change.  Invest in your health. Looking good is a bonus

    Brandon received a BS in Nutrition and minor in Exercise science at Western Carolina University. He is certified through EXOS and has been in the personal training field for 3 years.

        I have been into fitness since a young age, as I played sports from youth up to college. My passion is to help people reach their goals and provide them with the knowledge and training that will enhance their lifestyle.  I have worked with individuals of all ages and love the setting here at Fitness Together. One of my main focus points is proper technique and posture, as I believe it is very important in preventing injury and negative stress.  In my free time I enjoy working out, spending time with family and friends, sports, and studying for further certifications.
