    I came to Fitness Together as an unhealthy and overstressed person. I was in a downwards spiral and needed a lifestyle course correction. I also knew that I needed some hard-core support to turn around. My initial intent was to get a “jump-start” and then transition into a routine on my own.     Prior to joining FT, my work and life schedule was inconsistent with travel,kids, job, etc... I had a difficult time maintaining any consistent workout schedule and healthy eating habits. My wife encouraged me to get a personal trainer since I got to the point where I had given up on trying to lose weight or get in shape. I just had my 40th Birthday, I was up to 225 (from 170 lbs when we met), I was moody, self conscious, uncomfortable, sluggish, etc...everyone who is out of shape can relate.     Here I am again, on the elliptical doing my cardio. As my legs and arms warm up and I get into the rhythm of the machine, my mind starts to wander …….

    Just over a year and a half ago I was 51 and worried about my weight which had ballooned to just shy of 300 pounds. My knees hurt, my ankles hurt, I was short of breath, I snored, my cholesterol was sky high, my blood pressure was critically high, and my confidence in myself stunk. I was even worried that I would not be around in 5 years. I knew I needed to do something and had tried, but I lacked the drive and the knowledge to know what to do.

    A very good friend had found Fitness Together. She had only been going about 6 weeks, but you could already see great results. As I listened to her talk I eventually started thinking that maybe I’ll check this place out.

    So, with a lot of doubt I went in and was warmly welcomed by Joe Reed. We talked about nutrition and exercise and what I wanted to accomplish. He showed me around the brightly lit workout rooms with all their equipment. We did a trial session.

    Still not convinced, I came back for two more sessions before I finally was sure that this would be good for me. So, I set a personal goal of losing 20 pounds and started to work.

    The sweat was starting to run down my arms as I continued doing my cardio …..

    As I continued day dreaming, I remember some of the trainers. Alex, always pushing me to do “good stuff”, Jenny, who taught me to “love my Bosu”. Eric, who is a lot of fun to box with, and Liz, who has quietly challenged me to do more, helped me with proper form, knowledge and confidence. Besides these trainers, there is also, Joe and Mike. They all have their individual talents and help you to realize what you can really do. I found out quickly, that if you are committed and give an honest effort, they will give you 110% back.

    Wiping my face with my towel, my mind wanders again …..

    I have gone from 3 push ups to 75, I struggled with a 30 seconds plank and now have done one over 9 minutes. My pants waist size went from 48 to 34 and my shirts went from XX-Large to Large.* My cholesterol is in the normal low range, my blood pressure is in the low normal range and I have energy to spare! Oh, and now I don’t snore!*

    Best of all, my goal of losing 20 pounds changed to 40, then 50, then 75 …… and now my goal is 115 pounds, and I only have a few more to go.*

    I stop the elliptical and look around …..

  • Aaron Forinash Branch Manager Fitness Together Matthews North Carolina

    Aaron Forinash
    Owner/Exercise Physiologist

    Aaron graduated from Marshall University in 2005 with a BA in Exercise Physiology and Adult Fitness. Upon graduating, he returned to his hometown, Beckley West Virginia, to work in various cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.  He is also certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has spent time concentrating on sport-specific training for elite athletes.  Aaron joined the Matthews FT team in 2006, and was promoted to Branch Manager in late 2010 and took over as owner in 2015.  He enjoys designing unique and state-of-the-art exercise protocols specific to each clients needs.  Through advanced cardiac, strength and flexibility programs, he believes each client can improve the efficiency of their workouts and gain better results from their experience at Fitness Together.

    Owner, certified personal trainer

    Lenny is the owner of Fitness Together in Waxhaw. He has a great passion for physical fitness and really enjoys the challenge and excitement of working with clients to help them reach their objectives. “Our client’s goals are my goals and I take great pride in that”. His approach to overall wellness, nutrition and body conditioning is exemplified in his motivation and dedication to fitness. “Working out is not just about your body, it’s an enrichment of the mind and soul as well”. Lenny is married and has two sons and recently moved to the Waxhaw area from New Jersey. He has multiple Personal Training certifications as well as being a certified Sports Nutrition Consultant.  Lenny played Division 1 soccer and earned his Bachelors degree from the University of South Florida. In his free time Lenny enjoys doing anything sports-related with his 2 boys.

    Certified Trainer

    Patty earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Fitness from UNCC in 2005. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2001, earning certifications from ISSA, ACSM, and ACE. Patty is also a certified TRX instructor. While attending college, she began training clients in their homes. After graduating, Patty trained clients at Fitness Together studios in FL, NC, and MD. What she loves most about being a personal trainer is seeing a client reach a goal they once thought was impossible, whether the goal is weight loss, gaining strength, sport specific, or just being able to pick up their grandchild without pain.

     

    When Patty is not training clients at the studio, you can find her at the gym, running down the side of the road somewhere, at the park or the pool with her boys Henry and George, or indulging in her guilty pleasure, binging on Netflix shows.

    Jonathan is originally from the Northern VA area. Jon obtained his BS degree in Exercise science from Old Dominion Univ. in Norfolk, VA. While getting his degree, Jon worked at Fitness Together Norfolkand after he received his degree he worked for Elon Univ. as a strength and conditioning coach. 

    Jon worked with everyone from football players to cross-country runners. His knowledge of coaching and mentoring athletes translates into his personal training career where he has helped many individuals reach their health and fitness goals.

    In Jonathan's free time he enjoys power lifting.

    He won his weight class at the Arnold Classic in Columbus Ohio 2 years ago. Jon also just obtained his Masters Degree at UNC.

    Zach is originally from Winston-Salem, NC. He moved to the Charlotte area almost 8 years ago to pursue an education within the exercise science realm. Several years later he had an NASM certification in personal training and a B.S. in Exercise Science from UNC Charlotte.

    He is more than equipped to help you achieve any of your health and fitness goals. He understands not everyone wants to walk across the Olympia stage; some just want to be able to play with their kids in the backyard. This individualism is what drives him. He respects the fact that everyone deals with different drawbacks in life and sometimes physical capabilities hinder the flow of a desired lifestyle. He loves to help, motivate and inspire others; that's his passion. He wants to give back to others and help them achieve what he has dedicated a quarter of his life to.

    Hi. I'm Joe and fitness is my passion. I started working out and lifting weights in the basement of our house when I was 12, and I can honestly say it has changed my life. It not only gave me the athletic skills to be competitive but it also gave me confidence and discipline that has transferred over into other areas of my life. I became interested in nutrition shortly after starting to work out, so I decided to major in Nutrition with a minor in Exercise Science. I graduated from Virginia Tech in the fall of 1994 with those degrees. Needless to say, I’m a big Hokie fan! I started personal training while in college and obtained certifications with NFPT, NASM and APEX Nutrition Systems. I left the field after several years to pursue a more stable career in corporate America, but I always missed it.

    I ended up at another Fitness Together just part time to once again do what I loved. After a three years there, I took a chance and left corporate America to open my own studio here in the Steele Creek area in 2008. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I once again get to do a job that I truly love. I get no greater satisfaction than helping someone to change their life and achieve their health & fitness goals.

    Chris is a native of Arizona and studied Business Communication at Arizona State University. He has been living in the Charlotte area since 2006. Chris grew up playing basketball, football and running track and has had a passion for sports and fitness his entire life. After suffering two separate injuries, both requiring surgery, he saw the important role specialized training and research played in his own recovery. Chris then obtained an NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) personal training certification, hoping to help others recover from injuries and maintain a high level of strength and fitness. Chris loves helping people reach their personal strength and fitness goals, always learning through the process.

    My love for fitness started 5 years ago, at age 42 when I received an alarming diagnoses from my doctor. For years to took my health for granted, and my bad habits finally caught up with me.  I needed to change my attitude and make lifestyle changes if I wanted to live a longer life.  I started bodybuilding to stay accountable because bodybuilding requires a lifestyle of regular exercise and good nutrition.  Within 6 months I was healthier, and became an undefeated National Level Figure competitor.  By age 47 I had won 3 Figure Overalls, 3 Masters Overalls, rate 5th at the North Americans, and at age 46 I won the prestigious Arnold Classic Master Figure Overall.  My health and wellness journey has motivated me to share what I’ve learned, inspire my clients, and assist them in understanding the value of regular, progressive exercise coupled with good nutrition, as well as coaching and supporting healthy lifestyle choices.     Laurence joined the Fitness Together Southpark training family in 2008 from Melbourne, Australia. He has a degree in Biomedical Science from Monash University in Melbourne. He has also received a Level 3 Health & Fitness certification from the Australian Institute of Fitness, as well as the Fitness Together personal trainer certification.

    Prior to moving to Charlotte, Laurence was working as a gym and rock climbing instructor in Melbourne. Laurence has a unique training style that he likes to say comes from his background in swimming and triathlons, as well as the knowledge and drive instilled in him by his youth coaches. His moto in training is "practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect".

    Certified Trainer

    Zach is a Certified Fitness Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).  He received his bachelors degree in accounting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC).  He went on to complete his Masters of Accountancy at UNCC.  While attending college, Zach started training clients at his home gym and realized how passionate he was about fitness and impacting people's lives.

    Zach is very passionate about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle.  Zach stands by the motto, "You can't out train a bad diet."  He preaches balance and portion control.  Zach truly believes there is more to training than losing weight.  "It's about changing yourself, your mentality and your confidence.  You train to become stronger inside and outside of the gym."  Outside of training Zach, is a bodybuilder and is looking to compete in his first physique show in 2016.  "When I'm not training clients, I'm training myself.  I eat sleep and breathe fitness.  It's what I love."  When talking to Zach, you can see his enthusiasm and passion for nutrition and fitness.  He truly believes that fitness isn't just about building a physique.  It's about building a strong mind.  He plans on continuing his education in nutrition in the future.

    As I continued day dreaming, I remember some of the trainers. Alex, always pushing me to do “good stuff”, Jenny, who taught me to “love my Bosu”. Eric, who is a lot of fun to box with, and Liz, who has quietly challenged me to do more, helped me with proper form, knowledge and confidence. Besides these trainers, there is also, Joe and Mike. They all have their individual talents and help you to realize what you can really do. I found out quickly, that if you are committed and give an honest effort, they will give you 110% back.

    Wiping my face with my towel, my mind wanders again …..

    I have gone from 3 push ups to 75, I struggled with a 30 seconds plank and now have done one over 9 minutes. My pants waist size went from 48 to 34 and my shirts went from XX-Large to Large.* My cholesterol is in the normal low range, my blood pressure is in the low normal range and I have energy to spare! Oh, and now I don’t snore!*

    Best of all, my goal of losing 20 pounds changed to 40, then 50, then 75 …… and now my goal is 115 pounds, and I only have a few more to go.*

    I stop the elliptical and look around …..

  • Aaron Forinash Branch Manager Fitness Together Matthews North Carolina

    Aaron Forinash
    Owner/Exercise Physiologist

    Aaron graduated from Marshall University in 2005 with a BA in Exercise Physiology and Adult Fitness. Upon graduating, he returned to his hometown, Beckley West Virginia, to work in various cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs.  He is also certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has spent time concentrating on sport-specific training for elite athletes.  Aaron joined the Matthews FT team in 2006, and was promoted to Branch Manager in late 2010 and took over as owner in 2015.  He enjoys designing unique and state-of-the-art exercise protocols specific to each clients needs.  Through advanced cardiac, strength and flexibility programs, he believes each client can improve the efficiency of their workouts and gain better results from their experience at Fitness Together.

  • Lenny Turi
    Owner, certified personal trainer

    Lenny is the owner of Fitness Together in Waxhaw. He has a great passion for physical fitness and really enjoys the challenge and excitement of working with clients to help them reach their objectives. “Our client’s goals are my goals and I take great pride in that”. His approach to overall wellness, nutrition and body conditioning is exemplified in his motivation and dedication to fitness. “Working out is not just about your body, it’s an enrichment of the mind and soul as well”. Lenny is married and has two sons and recently moved to the Waxhaw area from New Jersey. He has multiple Personal Training certifications as well as being a certified Sports Nutrition Consultant.  Lenny played Division 1 soccer and earned his Bachelors degree from the University of South Florida. In his free time Lenny enjoys doing anything sports-related with his 2 boys.

  • Patty Kessiah
    Certified Trainer

    Patty earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Fitness from UNCC in 2005. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2001, earning certifications from ISSA, ACSM, and ACE. Patty is also a certified TRX instructor. While attending college, she began training clients in their homes. After graduating, Patty trained clients at Fitness Together studios in FL, NC, and MD. What she loves most about being a personal trainer is seeing a client reach a goal they once thought was impossible, whether the goal is weight loss, gaining strength, sport specific, or just being able to pick up their grandchild without pain.

     

    When Patty is not training clients at the studio, you can find her at the gym, running down the side of the road somewhere, at the park or the pool with her boys Henry and George, or indulging in her guilty pleasure, binging on Netflix shows.

    Trainer, Power-lifting Coach

    Jonathan is originally from the Northern VA area. Jon obtained his BS degree in Exercise science from Old Dominion Univ. in Norfolk, VA. While getting his degree, Jon worked at Fitness Together Norfolkand after he received his degree he worked for Elon Univ. as a strength and conditioning coach. 

    Jon worked with everyone from football players to cross-country runners. His knowledge of coaching and mentoring athletes translates into his personal training career where he has helped many individuals reach their health and fitness goals.

    In Jonathan's free time he enjoys power lifting.

    He won his weight class at the Arnold Classic in Columbus Ohio 2 years ago. Jon also just obtained his Masters Degree at UNC.

    Zach is originally from Winston-Salem, NC. He moved to the Charlotte area almost 8 years ago to pursue an education within the exercise science realm. Several years later he had an NASM certification in personal training and a B.S. in Exercise Science from UNC Charlotte.

    He is more than equipped to help you achieve any of your health and fitness goals. He understands not everyone wants to walk across the Olympia stage; some just want to be able to play with their kids in the backyard. This individualism is what drives him. He respects the fact that everyone deals with different drawbacks in life and sometimes physical capabilities hinder the flow of a desired lifestyle. He loves to help, motivate and inspire others; that's his passion. He wants to give back to others and help them achieve what he has dedicated a quarter of his life to.

    Hi. I'm Joe and fitness is my passion. I started working out and lifting weights in the basement of our house when I was 12, and I can honestly say it has changed my life. It not only gave me the athletic skills to be competitive but it also gave me confidence and discipline that has transferred over into other areas of my life. I became interested in nutrition shortly after starting to work out, so I decided to major in Nutrition with a minor in Exercise Science. I graduated from Virginia Tech in the fall of 1994 with those degrees. Needless to say, I’m a big Hokie fan! I started personal training while in college and obtained certifications with NFPT, NASM and APEX Nutrition Systems. I left the field after several years to pursue a more stable career in corporate America, but I always missed it.

    I ended up at another Fitness Together just part time to once again do what I loved. After a three years there, I took a chance and left corporate America to open my own studio here in the Steele Creek area in 2008. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I once again get to do a job that I truly love. I get no greater satisfaction than helping someone to change their life and achieve their health & fitness goals.

    Chris is a native of Arizona and studied Business Communication at Arizona State University. He has been living in the Charlotte area since 2006. Chris grew up playing basketball, football and running track and has had a passion for sports and fitness his entire life. After suffering two separate injuries, both requiring surgery, he saw the important role specialized training and research played in his own recovery. Chris then obtained an NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) personal training certification, hoping to help others recover from injuries and maintain a high level of strength and fitness. Chris loves helping people reach their personal strength and fitness goals, always learning through the process.

    My love for fitness started 5 years ago, at age 42 when I received an alarming diagnoses from my doctor. For years to took my health for granted, and my bad habits finally caught up with me.  I needed to change my attitude and make lifestyle changes if I wanted to live a longer life.  I started bodybuilding to stay accountable because bodybuilding requires a lifestyle of regular exercise and good nutrition.  Within 6 months I was healthier, and became an undefeated National Level Figure competitor.  By age 47 I had won 3 Figure Overalls, 3 Masters Overalls, rate 5th at the North Americans, and at age 46 I won the prestigious Arnold Classic Master Figure Overall.  My health and wellness journey has motivated me to share what I’ve learned, inspire my clients, and assist them in understanding the value of regular, progressive exercise coupled with good nutrition, as well as coaching and supporting healthy lifestyle choices.     Laurence Presti
    Owner/Personal Trainer

    Laurence joined the Fitness Together Southpark training family in 2008 from Melbourne, Australia. He has a degree in Biomedical Science from Monash University in Melbourne. He has also received a Level 3 Health & Fitness certification from the Australian Institute of Fitness, as well as the Fitness Together personal trainer certification.

    Prior to moving to Charlotte, Laurence was working as a gym and rock climbing instructor in Melbourne. Laurence has a unique training style that he likes to say comes from his background in swimming and triathlons, as well as the knowledge and drive instilled in him by his youth coaches. His moto in training is "practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect".

    Laurence says "The best part about training clients is when they push themselves further than they ever thought they could!"

  • Zach Marzo
    Certified Trainer

    Zach is a Certified Fitness Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).  He received his bachelors degree in accounting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC).  He went on to complete his Masters of Accountancy at UNCC.  While attending college, Zach started training clients at his home gym and realized how passionate he was about fitness and impacting people's lives.

    Zach is very passionate about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle.  Zach stands by the motto, "You can't out train a bad diet."  He preaches balance and portion control.  Zach truly believes there is more to training than losing weight.  "It's about changing yourself, your mentality and your confidence.  You train to become stronger inside and outside of the gym."  Outside of training Zach, is a bodybuilder and is looking to compete in his first physique show in 2016.  "When I'm not training clients, I'm training myself.  I eat sleep and breathe fitness.  It's what I love."  When talking to Zach, you can see his enthusiasm and passion for nutrition and fitness.  He truly believes that fitness isn't just about building a physique.  It's about building a strong mind.  He plans on continuing his education in nutrition in the future.
