I lost 100 pounds in 2005 through diet and exercise.  But after two years of the same one-hour elliptical workout, four times per week, I was bored and burned out.  But I was desperate not to regain any of the lost weight.

I spent most of 2007 trying a variety of workout programs (group classes at the YMCA, DVDs at home, a boot camp), but nothing really inspired and motivated me.  In April of 2008, I was referred to Fitness Together by a friend.  I visited the Fitness Together Southend location and scheduled a free trial workout with Colin Johns, a personal trainer there.  I was up front with him about wanting a challenging and demanding workout that would push me to my limits and boy, did he deliver!  I’m happy to say that I’ve been a client of Fitness Together, and Colin Johns, ever since!

While there are so many things that I love about Fitness Together, the most important is the workouts.  They are tough, intense, energetic and NEVER BORING!  I never know what to expect when I arrive for my workouts and that variety has kept me interested, focused, and returning for more.  The workouts are customized for my strength and ability level and I have my trainer’s complete focus during the session.  I also like the nutrition focus at FT.  I keep a food diary and review it periodically with my trainer.  Colin is always available for questions, ideas, concerns and will often give me weekly nutritional goals.  In addition, the studio manager, Sarah Perry, sends out weekly emails on a variety of fitness-related topics that are interesting and full of helpful tips.

But I really enjoy the FT atmosphere.  When you arrive, there’s a friendly hello from everyone and there is always someone laughing.  It’s a warm, welcoming environment and a place where I feel comfortable.  It reminds me of Cheers – the type of place “where everybody knows your name”.
