Why are there (almost) always bananas in our studio?

Bananas get a bad rap due to their fructose and calorie content. However, that is more than made up for by all the benefits of eating a banana every day:

  • They have lots of vitamins and minerals. The potassium in bananas, for example, can help lower your blood pressure. Because potassium is lost during exercise, via sweating, eating a banana can help replace that nutrient.
  • Bananas contain healthy fiber, which helps your digestive system do its work, and also helps stabilize blood sugar.
  • Bananas contain pectin, which can curb your sugar cravings in a healthy way. They are also part of a low-glycemic eating plan, providing yet another way they prevent blood sugar spikes.
  • Bananas may even help to reduce symptoms of depression, as they contain tryptophan, which is a precursor to serotonin, a "feel good" neurotransmitter.

Try a healthy snack by pairing a banana with some lean protein. Try a banana sliced in half and spread with a a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter (or almond butter), and sprinkled with raisins, nuts and/or sesame seeds. Or slice a banana into a serving of greek yogurt.
