Water is the perfect weight loss tool as it fills you up and keeps your mouth busy. Furthermore, drinking water helps maintain the balance of body fluids. (Your body is composed of about 60% water.) For the athlete, particularly in these hot summer months, drinking enough fluids is important when exercising to prevent dehydration and subsequent muscle fatigue. Follow the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines for fluid intake before and during physical activity. These guidelines recommend that people drink about 17 ounces of fluid about two hours before exercise. During exercise, they recommend that people start drinking fluids early, and drink them at regular intervals to replace fluids lost by sweating.

Water is elixir for life! Roughly 60 percent of the body is made of water. Drinking enough H2O maintains the body’s fluid balance, which helps transport nutrients in the body, regulates body temperature, helps digest food, and more. Drinking water may also help with weight loss. Water simply helps people feel full and, as a result, consume fewer calories. Water also helps to fuel muscles after sweating at the gym. When muscles don't have enough water, they get tired! So, for extra energy, try drinking water to push through that final set of squats. Water also helps to flush toxins out of our bodies to help our kidneys functioning efficiently and can help to make our skin look healthy and wrinkle free.....well, maybe that's pushing it a little! There are many more benefits of drinking water, from staying refreshed and alert, to fighting fatigue, to helping that hangover! Keeping hydrated throughout the day can make a big difference in your health and fitness. Adults need 9 to 16 cups of H20, however, this number varies depending on activity level, age, and how much water you are consuming in coffee, tea, or water-rich veggies and fruit. Here’s how to keep yourself hydrated: Begin by drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up, and 30 minutes before eating any big meal. (This will help control appetite too.) Get in the habit of keeping a water bottle on hand at all times. And if the taste beings to bore you, spice up your taste buds with a squeeze of citrus! Before you know it, all the benefits of water will be right at your fingertips…. and in your body.

There are a lot of foods, nutrients, vitamins and minerals that our bodies can go hours, days, years and even a lifetime without. Unfortunately, water is not one of those things. It is generally recommenced that females consume at least 2 liters of water per day and males should similarly consume at least 3. Water is important to every single body process/function that occurs within the human body from blood circulation, sweating and even the digestion of foods. While water is the most important thing that we can give our bodies each day, sadly, most people neglect to drink adequate amounts and thus live in a state of perpetual dehydration without even knowing. Signs that you are not drinking enough water may include thirst, sleepiness, decreased urine output, headaches, constipation, and general decrease in body health and performance. This is why is very important to drink lots of water everyday, especially during these summer months where the weather is hot and humid. Our bodies need the water to cool down, keep us feeling healthy and aid in all the processes that occur with them.

Besides the air we breathe, water is the single most important requirement for life. Blood is mostly water, and our muscles and organs all contain a lot of water. The liver and kidneys are the main filters of the bloodstream. The liver is also the organ that turns fat into energy. When you do not drink enough water this affects the kidneys. When the kidneys do not get enough water the liver has to abort its job of getting rid of fat and help the kidneys. Drinking enough water helps both the kidneys and liver function more efficiently.
