How to Increase Energy and Stamina this Mother's Day

How to Increase Energy and Stamina this Mother's Day

Fitness Together

Mother’s Day is this weekend, and what is the best gift you can think of? Flowers? A meal out? Or really, if we’re being honest, would you really just prefer a nap?

Too often we let our lack of energy compromise the quality of time we spend with those we most cherish. We choose to “sit this one out” or let everyone else play. And the less active we are, the less active we feel like being. The unfortunate end result of this no-win cycle is that we’ve missed out on some pretty great moments with our favorite people.

Here are 4 tips to get back in the game this Mother’s Day:

  • Force the fitness.
This is where “fake it ‘til you make it” comes into play. Even if you don’t feel like actually getting in the water at the pool for races and tag, or playing HORSE on the basketball court, just do it. You’ll always be glad you did. You and the kids will all feel great afterward, both physically and emotionally. And if you find yourself sore the next day, that’s a pretty good indication that your physical fitness could use a little fine-tuning.

  • Focus on Your Core power.
So much of spending time with kids and grandkids involves bending, reaching, balancing, and with the very little ones, sitting on the floor. A weak core will leave you feeling tired much earlier than you should. Have your kids or grandkids join you in your “Core Quest” with doing some planks a few times per week. You can set goals together, such as “I’ll bet we can each do 10 minutes of planks this week!” Check in with your trainer to get some core-building exercises that you can do at home, and make sure he or she checks your form to make sure you’re doing them right.

  • Sandwich with downtime.
Most kids don't want to just sit around the house relaxing. If you know you’re going to be hitting playtime with full force with the kids, then be sure to take care of yourself before and after. Spend some time stretching or relaxing before your play date, and then after the fun has died down. The less sore or tired you are the next day, the more ready you’ll be for the next play date.

  • Power up with your trainer.
It comes down to this: the healthier, fitter, and stronger you are, the more you’ll enjoy time with your loved ones. Your Fitness Together® trainer has many ideas for how you can improve your body’s overall tone and flexibility.
