How to Eat Healthy While Traveling
Apr 17, 2018
Life on the road can be tough — especially if you are trying to eat healthfully. With all of the distractions, it can be easy to go off the rails from your healthy lifestyle. Schedules can be tight, and hotel restaurants aren’t the healthiest. However, just because you are flying out of state, doesn’t mean you have to leave your diet at the gate. Here are a few ways you can keep eating healthy while traveling on business.
Always have a healthy snack on hand. It doesn't matter if you are traveling by air or car; both have limited choices when it comes to healthy eating. Some dried fruit, fresh nuts, granola or protein bars are all good options. Also, having your snacks will fight off those impulse cravings, which are never healthy.
Plan Your Meals
It’s good to do some planning ahead of time. Review the menus of the restaurants you’ll be visiting. If you have an idea of your healthy choice ahead of time, you won’t be distracted by other unhealthy options on the menu.
If you are flying, you should drink more water because air travel dehydrates you. Drinking water will also help fill your stomach during long days. This will help you avoid unhealthy snacking, and it will deter you from divulging in a big unhealthy meal.
Eat Before You Leave
It is always good to make sure you eat before you go –– especially in the mornings. You know with any meeting there’s always a platter of cookies, donuts or bagels. If you eat healthy before you leave, you won’t have the desire to partake in the snacking.
Find a Grocery Store
If you are going to stay for a few days, you should stock your hotel refrigerator with your healthy food. Find a local grocery store or health food store to stock up on fresh, healthy snacks. Fruits, veggies, turkey, cheese and yogurt are all good ideas. After all, your hotel is your home away from home — make it that way.
