Meadows Shelter, Brecksville Reservation, Ohio
The 13 participants that signed up for Fitness Together’s inaugural snowshoe clinic did so, without any prior experience.
Many admitted they were uncertain if they could do the sport, or keep up with the group. The fear of the unknown casted doubt, but after the snowshoes were on and the instructions began, their doubts quickly disappeared.
Tim Edwards, a certified USA Triathlon Level 1 coach and certified USA Cycling Level 3 coach, lead the group along the bridle trails, out of the Meadows Picnic area.
Throughout the 3-mile trek, Edwards stopped to teach the group how to climb over fallen trees, walk across creeks, maneuver down and back up hills and how to turn around. Skills necessary for a typical trek in the woods.
When the group arrived back to the shelter, an hour and a half later, a hot lunch was waiting for them.
Based on the smiles, and comments, the newbie snowshoers are hooked.
Lisa W, from the Hudson studio said she loved everything about snowshoeing.
“It was fun, the scenery was beautiful and it was a great workout.”
Debbie K, from the Chagrin Falls studio loved the idea of being outside and trying something new.
All the participants agreed: snowshoeing is easier than one might think and they would return for a second clinic.
