Rich

Fitness Coach, FT Nutrition Consultant

Fitness has been a way of life for me ever since my childhood. But it didn’t come easy. As a child I had a touch of cerebral palsy and wore corrective shoes up until the age of six. I didn’t allow that to stop me though, in fact I used that as motivation to overcome the condition and become a highly competitive runner. I went on to go undefeated in my final four years of high school cross country, compete in the World Cross Country Trials, win the National 1500m and 3000m championships in Track & Field and be blessed enough to have a long, rewarding running career that isn’t quite finished yet. Although I worked in the Finance/Accounting field most of my life, my passion has always been in the area of health and fitness. Working behind a desk doesn’t bring the gratification that “changing lives” does. I wanted to be part of a team that changed people’s lives for the better. I decided it was time to pursue my passion so I attended a six-month (500 hours) hands-on personal training program at the National Personal Training Institute in Waltham and shortly thereafter became a certified personal trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). While at the National Personal Training Institute, I became certified in TRX Suspension Training and Kettlebell Training, received my Nutrition certificate, and received my First Aid &CPR/AED certification through the American Heart Association. Intrigued with the way the body is suppose to move and wanting to learn more, I took a two-day workshop in Rhode Island on the Functional Movement System and became certified as a level 1 specialist shortly thereafter. I also toyed with the idea of specifically working with youth so I took a course through the International Youth Conditioning Association to become a Youth Fitness Specialist- Level 1. My motivation for learning is simply to provide my clients with the best training that they can get. The more I know about the human anatomy and the way it is designed to move, the better I feel I’ll be able to provide the client with what they need to reach their goals. I love fitness! If I didn’t love fitness, I’d still be behind a desk working in the Corporate World. I want to inspire people to be the best they can be. When someone tells you that you can’t do something, use it to motivate yourself to prove them wrong. I was told I would never be able to walk without the assistance of corrective shoes. Those shoes came off at the age of six and I’ve had over forty wonderful years of memories. Whatever your goal is, you can do it but you need to take action and once you do, you need to stick with it. If you follow that formula, you’ll have no choice but to succeed.

Hobbies: Running, weight training, aerial adventures (especially zip-lining), any outdoor activity, and watching the Patriots (can we make it five Super Bowls in fifteen years)?
