Dear Adam, Andy, Nolan, Robin, J.T., Paul & Josh, Thank you so much for everything you have done for me during my time at Fitness Together. I came into this truly not believing that I could make it. I had given up on every fad diet, every real diet, and every gym I have ever tried. Now I know I can do it and will. I also started only caring about the number on the scale and losing weight. I still care about that... but I also like seeing muscle forming, feeling stronger, healthier and most importantly, feeling like I have control over my life. I understand what I need to eat and when, what I need to do for exercise and how to do it and what results I will get when I stick with it. I also appreciate your consideration and flexibility, giving me the time slots I needed given my difficult schedule working full time and being a single mom. You made this experience work for me and I am and will always be grateful. Finally, thank you for your patience and great attitude working with me. Whenever I whined or acted like a complete brat (99.9% of the time! :) you could have eased up and made it a less intense workout but you pushed me to complete what you knew I could do. You made me enjoy working out (o.k. at least in-between each exercise it was fun!) and it just will not be the same without you. I am definitely hoping to return for at least some refresher sessions so enjoy this rest because I may be back... :) Thank you for everything... Katy (Natick)

I think you know that I have high regard for all the trainers--they are professional, knowledgeable, and careful. I cannot stress careful enough--they encourage without pushing to the point of pain or injury. They educate on nutrition (and, I might add, they're a bit of a conscience in that regard. I think on a few occasions, I wasn't completely truthful about what i had eaten for breakfast or dinner--they're definitely judgmental about nutrition--but not in a bad way!)

Total Knee Replacement is not, as many will tell you, for the faint of heart. The memories of my first one still linger after six years so I approached the second one, at age 63, with apprehension and a little bit of fear. Four months prior to surgery I joined Fitness Together in Natick expecting that I might be able to gain a little strength to prepare me for the long recovery.

I want to feel young, strong, healthy and in control for life. I will be that 80 year-old still out there enjoying a beautiful day on the ski slope. I will be the one out sledding with my grandchildren. I know that I have to do something today and every day to make that dream a reality.

As a kid growing up, I’d always been very active and enjoyed playing a lot of different sports. Twenty-five years at a desk in the corporate world, however, had left me overweight, out-of-shape and (most of the time) out of breath. Worst of all, I had become a smoker and no matter what I tried, I couldn’t “kick the habit.” I’d tried exercise in the past but every sports club, spa and athletic facility I sought out left me frustrated. What equipment should I use? How do I incorporate weights into a program? How many reps should I do? How many sets? Is there a right way or a wrong way to do what I’m doing? And finally – what kind of effects are my efforts having? Aside from changes in weight (which even I can figure out on a scale!), what else should be – or could be – happening?

I was like a lot of people at the beginning of the year, vowing to eat better, lose weight and get healthier. Having struggled with being morbidly obese for over 40 years, I certainly have tried all of the fad, healthy and not-so-healthy ways to attempt to lose weight - and yes, they all worked, but I was never able to sustain the progress. While in Bermuda for vacation in January 2008, I saw ads for their annual marathon and 10K walk and vowed that I would participate in 2009. I started off the year with dieting alone and managed to take off the first 20 pounds. At that point, I did a lot of reflecting on all the things I'd tried and why it never "stuck" for me. The answers were not new or shocking - if I was serious, I needed to put both the healthier eating AND some exercise together. I'd always waited until I lost a significant amount of weight before starting to walk and I was usually discouraged by this time. I knew that the crowded gym with my insecurities weren't the best route for me, that I wanted a one-to-one program and when I received a Fitness Together notice in the mail, I decided to go chat with them. What I found was a caring, supportive environment where I was heard when I said I wanted to work with someone closer to my age who "got it" that life stressors had a major impact on my physical as well as mental status and that my goals were not to become a body-builder, but to lose weight and get my body into a shape it had never enjoyed that could be sustained.

Wow! Six months already at Fitness Together. Its 5 months and 3 weeks longer then I expected to last. Now I just love it. When I started, I felt doing the assessment was going to be extremely difficult. I remember that I was very nervous but figured I could get through it if I just close my eyes. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that I didn’t have to do that, since Nolan treated me with so much respect and dignity. Each retest thereafter I was again very nervous (tests do that to me) but Nolan was always very supportive and encouraging. Each week I look forward to my Friday session with Nolan. He always challenges me to do the best I can and not give up - at the same time we have a lot of laughs. Nolan has replaced feelings of doubt with feelings of hope. Recently I had foot surgery and when the nurse checked my heart rate she said it was one of an athlete. Imagine that, me the original couch potato an athlete. Who would have thought that that would be said about me six months ago? Certainly wasn’t me. So it is with my deepest gratitude that I say thanks for making me feel better and for such a caring and supportive group at FT-Natick.

Now that it has been six months since I joined Fitness Together I wanted to take the time to let you know what my experience has been like so far. Let me start by saying that Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are my favorite days of the week. On those mornings I wake up with a smile on my face because I know where I am going later on in the day. It just keeps getting better and better. Working with Adam twice a week is such outstanding experience. He demands the best from me and never accepts I can’t, even on the days I don’t think I have it in me. He has shown me that I do have what it takes to work hard to obtain a fitness level which has improved the quality of my life. Though Adam’s sessions are quite challenging, we still manage to have a lot of fun. Adam brings to each session a professional, encouraging and supportive attitude along with a friendly smile. He has made what seemed to be unreachable, a reality. So it is with great admiration and respect for Adam and the entire FT-Natick staff that I say thank you for creating such a friendly and welcoming environment. or making me feel better and for such a caring and supportive group at FT-Natick.

So far, so good! I joined FT Natick to support my long-term goals of becoming a "qualified" Boston Marathon runner and to maintain a healthy weight and fitness level. When I started working out with my FT Team, my more immediate goals were to strengthen my core, drop a few pounds and get a little faster....I was scheduled to run my 7th marathon less than 2 months from my first workout. Meeting with Adam and Andy each week, I have benefited from their team approach, working around my busy schedule and providing immediate impact on achieving my goals. I am happy to report that I not only lost a few extra pounds of fat (and gained some critical muscle mass) but I was able to run the Maine Marathon at a personal record (PR) pace of under 3 hours and 43 minutes -- 10 minutes faster than my previous PR! As I've told both Adam and Andy, what impressed me the most about my improvement was not the speed gain, but the awareness of how the workouts have impacted my running. I could actually feel my stronger mid-section almost pulling me up the hills when my legs were fatigued and my recovery time following the marathon was the quickest and smoothest yet. Also, the agility and balance exercises for my legs, hips and back helped me overcome a couple of missteps, potholes, and a steep road shoulder on the marathon course. While I still have to shave another 22 minutes off my marathon time to qualify for the Boston Marathon, I feel like I'm heading in the right direction and appreciate the high-impact kick and ongoing motivation I get from the FT team. Thank you.

"I had a great experience at Fitness Together! I always looked forward to the challenging yet fun (well, as fun as working out can get) workouts they had planned for me! I especially enjoyed my time with Adam, he really understood what it was that I needed and wanted from my workouts! Adam was extremely motivating and helped me reach my goals. He created a workout program that I am getting continued results from!"

Fall 2007: Both my kids were off to college. Finally I had time on my hands, yet, after months of saying “I need to go back to the gym,” I still hadn’t. It was just too overwhelming to find a place that would meet my needs, didn’t smell like feet, had the equipment I wanted and when I wanted it, and would keep me motivated and interested. Last Christmas, my husband finally gave me that push I needed: 8 sessions with a personal trainer at FTNatick.

For the past 25 years, I have been searching for the best way to get my body into shape in a manner that fits in with the many commitments that compete for my time. In Fitness Together I have finally found my answer. Carefully supervised and enthusiastically coached by FT's excellent trainers, I have, in a short period of time, created a routine that has made me stronger and more fit than I have been since my 20s. I am loosing weight and gaining strength. But Fitness Together is more than just an exercise program. FT is enabling me to develop a new lifestyle, a healthier lifestyle, that will enhance my life for year to come.

John -- Just a note to let you know how much I've benefited from my training session with Paul at Fitness Together. Your program is exactly what an "age challenged" exercise neophyte needs to get back on the road to improved fitness. I especially appreciate the emphasis on developing my individual goals and tailoring the program to allow me to see progress that others have noticed. Thanks.

This is a thank you note for the results that I have experienced with your organization. Your group, led by John T and supported by Andy and Paul led me to better health measured by weight loss of 81 pounds, tread mill exercising for 40 minutes at a 15 incline at speeds of 3.5 and rack pulling 315 lbs. However, the best statistic is after eliminating my blood pressure medications and during my most recent doctors visit having a 122/70 blood pressure.

I started Fitness Together October 1, 2007. I had never been to a gym a day in my life and had no idea where to start and how to developan effective exercise and eating plan. The idea of one on one in your own room appealed to me greatly. Adam, from the begining tailored a plan that fit my beginning level. I was constantly encouraged and pushed to do one more. Adam is also very resilient to whining and in turn-makes it a positive. I started at 37% body fat and in 12 weeks I am now 28%. I have so much more energy, I feel great. I have learned how to eat a healthy balanced diet. This is not a "fad" routine and diet that gets boring or is impossible to follow. This is a change in lifestyle that will work and the results are fantastic. I am so thankful to Adam and the staff of Fitness Together for helping me get a handle on my health and fitness.

When my husband proposed to me in April 2006, I realized that starting a life with him also meant starting a healthier life for myself. I had always been an active person before meeting my husband. I was heavily involved in dance, yoga and pilates and loved exercise. However, upon meeting him, my health and all things healthy for me went out the window. I decided it was far more fun to drink cappuccinos, go out to dinner all the time and eat lots of desserts than it was to sweat in the dance or yoga studio. It was amazing to me how in just a few weeks, which turned into months, and then into years, my body went from in-shaped and toned, to pudgy and overweight.

Dear John, When I first called you to enquire about Fitness Together, I had hit rock bottom. I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life. I had no energy. I couldn't keep up with my two year old daughter. Not to mention, my heath had begun to suffer because of my weight. I had high blood pressure. My asthma was out of control. I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror, because I didn't like what I saw. I had always hated exercising until I started working out with John T. Workouts with him are never boring and he always challenges me. I actually love working out now. I started working out 3 days a week and now I go 4 to 5 times a week. Not because I have to, because I WANT to. Every time I work out with John, I learn something new from him. Whether it's about nutrition, exercise technique or cardio, he really knows what he is talking about. I can't say enough good things about him. I always feel great about myself when I leave there. I have nothing but praise for all of your trainers. I am happy to say that after three months of training at Fitness Together, I can fit into clothes I haven't been able to fit into for four years. I no longer have to shop in the "big girls" department. I can't imagine ever working out anywhere else. I can't wait to see what I look like after another three months! I have gone from being on four different asthma medications to only two. My blood pressure is great and I feel wonderful! I run up and down the stairs now, never having to stop to catch my breath. Thank you again for helping me to feel better about myself again. You guys are the best! I feel like I not only found great trainers, I found great friends.

Joining Fitness Together in Natick and having John Troiano as my trainer has been a fantastic experience. I used to work out when I was much younger, but for the last 20 years I’ve made up excuse after excuse to skip going to the gym while my weight has skyrocketed and my overall condition deteriorated. I was in terrible shape when I joined and now, only 14 weeks later, my stamina, strength and flexibility have dramatically increased while at the same time I’ve lost a considerable amount of weight. John T. has made the workouts both challenging and fun, and when I know I have an appointment to meet John for a session at FT, I don’t want to make up any excuses – I look forward to going.

In the seven weeks that I have been working out with Paul I have lost body fat and made significant gains in strength and endurance. Paul is an incredibly motivational trainer. He has pushed me to do things that I did not believe I was capable of. Paul effectively integrates his extensive knowledge of exercise physiology and nutrition with a motivational attitude that is enhanced with a sense of humor and compassion. My work outs with Paul are not always fun, are never easy but are ALWAYS worth it.

John Troiano is a terrific trainer. He has a good mix of challenge, know how and enough fun to keep the time go back fast. John pays attention to your success well past the workouts. He knows your lifestyle, priorities and always tries to find ways to fine tune your training.

I am Fitness Together-Natick’s 1st client and have been working out there for the past three months-3 days per week. My goals were to lose some weight, tone up, build some strength and just feel good about myself. As a busy person who works a lot of hours and does a lot of volunteer work I needed to make some time for me and get some guidance on a regular exercise program as well as good nutrition habits. In just over three months in working with John, Andy and Paul at Fitness Together I have had an unbelievable amount of success that has led me to be named, “Client of the Month for July 2007.” Each trainer brings different training skills to the table so that each and every workout is challenging me to strive to do my very best. The positive energy that you get every time you walk in the door from everyone including John Pantera, the owner, and his staff as well as other clients is energizing and makes you want to succeed to do your very best and get to the next level. In just over three months I have lost 23 pounds, 6 inches off of my waist, 4 inches off my chest and 5 inches off my hips. This all resulted in a reduction of my body fat by 7.5 %. My goal now is maintain my weight and continue to build my strength and I know that the folks at FT-Natick will help me succeed.

“Paul Nichols is an outstanding personal trainer. He shares his extensive knowledge of physiology and training to give you the reasons for your different exercise routines. And, best of all, his sense of humor makes the workout session a truly enjoyable experience. Laughing and lifting are a great combination.”

Fitness Together changed my life. I have never been so confident in myself ever. It has not just helped me with losing weight, but I feel so much better about myself too. My trainers have helped for the last 9 months and I am still continuing with the program they have designed for me. I love going because everyone there is so nice, and I also have gotten big improvements in my body and my confidence. I’m so glad I go to Fitness Together, I love going there.

I joined FT Natick in October 2010. I was hesitant to begin exercising, as I had recently gained a lot of weight and had not been active since about 2004. I felt welcome from the beginning. I worked with a wonderful trainer, Nolan, twice a week for about 4 months. He knew how to set up a routine that was safe and effective for an extremely overweight and inactive 46- year old female. My trainer is motivating and upbeat and I was enthusiastic about my workout commitment.
I have shifted to training once a week at FT and continue twice weekly cardio outside of the studio. In the past 11 months, I have lost 40 pounds and my health has improved dramatically.
Before FT, I was 100 pounds overweight, had sleep apnea, pre-diabetes, high cholesterol and chronic back pain. My back no longer hurts and I can participate in so many fun activities such as the Macy's Thanksgiving parade in NYC and a recent day at Old Sturbridge Village. I even completed a 5k walkathon.
I am now eating using suggestions from the book "whatever it is" and have really cut back on junk foods. Thank you to everyone at FT, it is a great place to improve your quality of life!

I had attended a regular gym for a few years. No trainer at the gym told me that use of a heavier weight on my knees was not good form, and would not help me increase flexibility. I was also not told that a specific arm machine was not addressing my shoulder limitations. Since coming to Fitness Together, my knees are stronger, and my balance is improving. I am 78 years old and my unique physical needs are being addressed. For an adventure in being personally fit, go to Fitness Together!

Dear Josh:
I can hardly believe that it has been 4 years since I joined Fitness Together. How time flies when you are having fun. It’s because of Adam’s continued motivation, support and encouragement that I like going to FT so much. He is always there for me and for all his clients. I know that I put in the time but he does as well. I could never have gotten to the level I have without the passion he has in helping his clients reach their goals.
I have seen how much he has grown as a trainer. His level of self confidence and knowledge of physical fitness and nutrition has expanded greatly. I am so proud and honored to have been part of that. I realized early on that giving Adam my trust and to have faith in his ability would prove to be a wise decision.
Since I have met my goal weight Adam has the ability to keep me focused and challenged in order to maintain my weight and feel strong. On those few occasions that I have gained a few pounds and ready to freak out he knows how to calm my fears, ignore my neurotic behavior and put me on the right path. I could not have made it this far without his expertise.
So it is still with great admiration and respect for Adam and the entire FT-Natick staff that I say thank you for creating such a friendly and welcoming environment. I am looking forward to year five and the challenges in store.
With warmest regards,
Patricia A. Kenney
