Our First Client!

Four years! It's hard to believe it's been four years since I began taking control of my health and my life with the help and guidance from my friends at Fitness Together. First, congratulations to David, Blair and the entire staff. I'm proud to say I was their first customer and I remain a very satisfied and grateful one.

When I started my fitness program I was a train wreck waiting to happen. I lived a stressful and mostly sedentary life. My blood pressure was elevated, as was my cholesterol. I weighed more than I had at any time in my life. And I had recently been diagnosed as a moderate Type II diabetic. My doctor told me I could manage my diabetes with diet and exercise and challenged me to do so, rather than put me on the standard medication. I met with the team at Fitness Together and we designed a strength and cardio regimen that would work in conjunction with my commitment to improve my nutritional intake.

I must admit, when I began I was seriously out of shape. My wind was virtually nil. I was unable to sustain any kind of accelerated heart rate for more than a few minutes. I had little stamina or upper body strength. While I'm no Charles Atlas...today I am a different person. Shortly after we began, my A1C levels began to settle back within the normal range. I never took any diabetes medication. It's been four years and I still check out at normal levels during my twice yearly exams. I've lost 21 pounds but more importantly, my body mass has changed for the better. I am stronger and more agile. I can maintain a pretty rigorous cardio pace throughout an entire 45 minute session. I feel better and I look better. And I have Fitness Together and especially my trainer, Blair Meadows to thank.

I heartily recommend Fitness Together. It's personal, it's serious and it works!

"I have been going to Fitness Together for almost seven months.  I joined for several reasons, to get stronger so I would be a better partner to my horse especially in my core which I was not convinced I still had, and to build up my stamina so I could work the horse longer.  The other and most important reason for me joining was I had several family members who were having major health issues and I needed something to do to help deal with the sadness and the angst I was dealing with.  As I write this I believe the exercise and support I have received from trainers Valerie and Blair at Fitness Together have gotten me through a very difficult period in my life by letting me vent my frustrations and giving me something to focus my energy and mind on for those 45 minutes each day.  This helped me sleep better and as I got stronger, made me feel like I was able to accomplish more than I thought was still possible with my "old woman" body.  In addition I noticed I was able to ride more efficiently and longer than I have for many years.
Now with the beginning of spring a new and kind of wonderful thing has happened.  I recently entered a store where nothing has fit for over five maybe ten years and tried on four items.  Amazingly, three fit and the fourth was too big (and ugly but that's beside the point).  I was so surprised and pleased.  I am not a person that can hop on a scale without a very good reason so the weight thing was never my focus.  I had noted that many of my own clothes were fitting better or even were seeming a bit loose but I had no real illusion I would be able to fit into any of this store's clothing.  Now I am hoping to fit into something great for a class reunion in July and believe for the first time in many years this could be possible.
The only downside to all of this is I bought two pairs of summer pants six weeks ago and now they are too big for me to wear...I shouldn't have taken the tags off...but that's okay, I would rather they be too big than too small.
Thanks to a great team and a wonderful sometimes tough experience I am beginning to feel like a strong "old woman."  I hope to continue this journey getting stronger and healthier each month."

Eric and Christiana A.

Eric has been a client of Fitness Together-Greensboro for about three months.  Eric came to us with pretty specific goals related to his strength, flexibility, and nutrition.  He's an avid golfer who really wanted to make the most of his game and felt some of these things were holding him back from becoming a better player.

The past three months have involved golf-specific programs to increase his strength, power, flexibility and balance--all while challenging his endurance and metabolism and ultimately helping him lose weight.  With the addition of the right nutrition (i.e. what to eat and when to eat), Eric has really noticed the difference in how he looks and especially in how he feels:

"My goal was to find some process, trainer, gym, something that would help me achieve my internal goals of increased strength, improved diet, improved flexibility, Diet Coke reduction (ha ha) but mainly a change in lifestyle as it relates to my health.  What I have found at Fitness Together is the exact formula to help me accomplish the goals that I set forth for myself.  Being in an isolated environment as well as having a trainer that is able to understand my limitations and goals is clearly the biggest selling point.  FT has created a perfect environment for me to accomplish the goals I have for my fitness and health."

Since Eric has accomplished so much, his wife, Christiana, has also become a client.  Running a new business and juggling a child in college and one at home had really taken a toll on Christiana's energy.  She had always been active and fit and started to noticed that she really didn't feel as good as she used to.  With Eric's encouragement and support, Christiana decided it was time to make a change.  Though it's only been a few weeks since she has started our program, Christiana is already seeing improvements in her stamina, energy, and recovery following exercise.  She has also made the commitment to making better choices with her nutrition.  Together, Eric and Christiana have regained the energy to withstand both their business lives and their home and leisure lives.

My trainers at Fitness Together have truly helped to change my life.....for the better I must say....since I had been immobile for approx. 16 years.  Their encouragement and positive messages have really helped me.  Not only did I lose 11 lbs. in the first month but I just visited the cardiologist and have been removed from all diuretics and blood pressure meds and the main med I was on had been cut in half (CHF due to chemo)...they have helped me jumpstart my metabolism.  This is also truly amazing since I have had a pulled groin muscle since June and could not do cardio.  Thanks again Fitness Together.

My name is Barb Foster, I am 37 years old and joined Fitness Together in February 2010. In 2006, I had two life changing experiences. First, the loss of my twin sister to Melanoma and second, six months later, my diagnosis (at the age of 33) with breast cancer. Almost immediately, I underwent a right total mastectomy and chemotherapy. Many people who have been through chemotherapy are familiar with the steroids that you often get during treatment. These steroids and the long Minnesota winter resulted in me packing on approximately 35 lbs. In 2007, I also underwent the removal of both of my ovaries, to help me fight any recurrence of cancer. This resulted in menopause – at the age of 34. Needless to say, I was unfamiliar with my new, changed body and metabolism. After moving to Greensboro in late 2007, I joined a local gym and enjoyed meeting new people and getting back to working out regularly. Unfortunately, even after 2 years of regular exercise and several “boot camp” style group workouts, I still was not taking off the pounds or seeing any significant change in my body. It was then, that I decided I needed to do something different and contacted Fitness Together.

The trainers at Fitness Together have helped me develop a plan to reach my goal and the personal training and nutrition accountability has shown significant results! After only 2 months of training, I am now able to fit into all of my pre-chemo clothes and can tell a change for the better in my body. I have been able to, not only decrease my weight and body fat percentage, but I can do 25 regular push ups! Prior to joining Fitness Together, I could only do push ups on my knees.

Carmen and Blair have helped me feel connected again to my body and I am amazed at what it can now do. They push me beyond what I was doing at the gym and I am so happy with the results. Believe it or not, working out is now fun for me because I can see myself changing for the better. Over the last few years, I have had a wide range of life experiences and I feel a passion for sharing my story with others who may be going through something similar. I also learned a few things along the way including that you’re stronger than you think you are AND it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. I was ready to give up and thought my goal was impossible to reach, the trainers at Fitness Together have shown me differently and that has made all the difference!

Since joining Fitness Together-Greensboro in August of 2009, Janet has totally taken a new perspective on healthy living and has realized it's not an exact science.  Having been a Weight Watcher in the past, she now realizes how important combining exercise with proper nutrition is so important in weight loss success.  She's learned that strength training is not "scary," and that it can actually be fun.  It's become something that she looks forward to every time she's due for her next appointment!

Although Janet is a busy professional, living in Chapel Hill and working in Greensboro, she makes sure she prioritizes her exercise and has been coming 3 days per week. 

She's lost over 20 pounds, has nearly doubled her upper body strength and has an overall improvement in her stamina.  With all of this combined she's even conquered zip lining in Costa Rica with her kids!

Since beginning her program, Ruth Anne has learned to make exercise and good nutrition two top priorities in her life. By incorporating the FT accountability journal, she has found out how important it is to properly fuel the body when losing weight—she would have never before believed how much she could eat and still lose weight!
She has lost 18 pounds and counting. Her body fat percentage has decreased nearly 7% and she has lost a total of 12.5 inches overall. Ruth Anne has gotten back into running—a favorite cardiovascular activity of hers. She’s gotten 2 minutes faster in her 1 mile run, which inspires her to sign up for future running events.
