Just over a year ago I began training at Fitness Together. What a difference a year makes! I have greatly improved both my strength and endurance. As a result I feel a lot better about myself. Under the watchful eye of General Manager Bryce Klenck, and the other outstanding FT Trainers, I have increase the number of pushups and sit-ups I can do by about five times. After an initial increase in weight ( which they tell me is a result of fat being converted into muscle) I have had a gradual, steady decrease in weight. More importantly to me, I have lost over three inches in my waist size. Once again I can wear polo shirts without fear of embarrassment. Friends and family who haven't seen me in a while comment that I "look good". The time and money I have spent at Fitness Together is one of the greatest investments I have ever made.
Bonnie Maytorena
Bonnie Maytorena first started at FITNESS TOGETHER DOS VIENTOS RANCH as an average 64 year old woman, dealing with the onset of arthritis and less than anxiously anticipating bilateral knee replacements. However, her doctor informed her that her best chances for long term success relied on her commitment to losing the excess weight first. Since she had already been forced to put her tennis racket on the shelf, Bonnie decided it was in her best interest to make the commitment to herself and begin her turnaround…that’s when she found FITNESS TOGETHER DOS VIENTOS RANCH. In just 6 weeks, Bonnie has already achieved 25% of her initial weight loss goal and has noticed gains in both strength and endurance. Here is what she had to say about her accomplishments:

Vicki Wittrock
Vicki, a retired 60 year old accountant, came to Fitness Together Dos Vientos Ranch with a history of heart disease and high blood pressure, and wanting to change her exercise and eating patterns to improve her health. Vicki has lost 37+ pounds, 7.7 inches off her waist and 7.4 inches off her hips. Her cholesterol has lowered more than 20 points and is continuing to improve her health as she continues her program. She is now able to start doing things she used to outdoors, like hiking, biking and gardening. Her back pain and aches in various joint of her body lessened as she continues to lose weight and gain lean mean muscle mass. She is looking forward to getting into that swimsuit and exercising in the great outdoors
Sheila Gebo
Sheila came to Fitness Together Dos Vientos Ranch wanting to look better, lose weight, reduce back pain, improve flexibility and general fitness.
After her first 6 week assessment, Sheila lost 6 pounds, lowered her bodyfat by 9% improved her flexibility and went from 10 to 20 full pushups.
Sheila has also lost a total of 25.3 inches off her body!

I am one of those weird people who have always enjoyed exercise and felt that the only thing I needed was a little more time and a little more commitment. After a few years of failing to quite find that “little bit” to make it happen. I admitted to myself that my health was 1) important and 2) not optimized. I needed some help. It started with 15 extra pounds, but I knew that was not the whole problem. I wasn’t maximizing the limited time I had and felt I was losing the battle. I’m only 44! I was THRILLED when I saw the sign for FITNESS TOGETHER go up in the Paraiso Town Center in Dos Vientos Ranch. I knew it was just the jumpstart I needed. Well after 14 weeks, I now realize, it isn’t a jumpstart- it is a relationship- an ongoing relationship and commitment between me and my body. And Kathy Zetterberg and her team are an integral part of that relationship- not just a jumpstart. She encourages me to perform at a level I NEVER THOUGHT I could. I can actually run-…fast! And I really have muscles in my upper arms! Funny- I haven’t hit the 15lbs.-but I feel better than I ever have, and I know that the number on the scale is only a small part of what makes me look and feel good. Try it- but be warned, you will get hooked!!!

I began training with FITNESS TOGETHER DOS VIENTOS RANCH simply because I wanted to lose weight in a healthy way. Well, I have I lost weight and have received more compliments on my appearance than I could count. I have increased my lean muscle mass and reshaped my body. Working with FITNESS TOGETHER has GREATLY improved my overall health. As a mom of two kids, I would always catch whatever bug my kids brought home...not anymore! My immune system has dramatically strengthened, my blood pressure is down, my energy is high and my stress level has dropped. Steve Bartolucci
Diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in May of 2000,
Steve's family doctor discovered a quart sized tumor in his chest during a routine physical exam.
Steve went through 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 32 rounds of Rituxan during initial treatment, and 2 relapses over the next 8 years. In October of 2007, one treatment with Zevalin finally brought him into remission as he entered his 8th year of Suvivorship.
Shortly after beginning his cancer journey, Steve discovered Lance Armstrong, the Tour De France, and became an avid cyclist. In 2002, Steve completed his first distance ride, the "Solvang Prelude" a 65 metric Century. Since then, he has been riding all over the country in numerous 100-mile charity events benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Steve, now age 58, has always been a weekend warrior in trying to achieve some level of middle aged fitness. Walking, hiking, skiing etc., but nothing serious. With cancer, he learned through numerous sources that exercise has both preventive and therapeutic benefits.
Cycling and hiking the Santa Monica Mountains provided a great base, but it was all legs, lungs and cardio. Steve realized that this current period of remission might be temporary, so his fitness goals changed. He felt that he had been given a window of opportunity to develop an all around level of fitness that would promote health, longevity and be preventive in nature.
"I want to try to make my body a place where cancer cannot gain another foothold, and push out that potential next relapse by years, not just months" says Steve.
Steve came to FITNESS TOGETHER DOS VIENTOS RANCH to achieve that goal. He wanted a total program, that built on his cycling foundation, provided regular progress evaluations, build strength and tone appropriate for someone approaching 60 years of age.
What Steve has achieved at FITNESS TOGETHER since February of 2009 has been remarkable. He no longer feels that his core and upper body have been neglected.
Steve has lost 5.1 pounds, his bodyfat is 13% lower, his resting heart rate has dropped form 65 BPM to 48 BPM, his recovry heart rate has dropped from 80 BPM to 60 BPM,he is doing 40-60 push-ups per session, many times wearing a weighted vest, and his flexibility has increased by 7%.
Steve's cycling has improved , and is climbing hills stronger and faster because he is pulling less dead weight up our local hills.
In all ,Steve claims that working out at FITNESS TOGETHER has jump started his efforts to keep a cancer recurrence at bay. It has given him new hope, and has strengthened his resolve to help other cancer Survivors by embracing the LiveSTRONG Lifestyle, and supporting the work of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

I have always been active and have done my best to stay in shape. I've had gym memberships almost continuously for 25 years. I got my cardio from trail running or the various indoor equivalents. I skied 10 days or so a year. I am naturally thin. Weight training in my case allowed me to maintain strength as I aged but was completely ineffective when it came to building muscle mass.
By the time I hit 50 I was resigned to the fact that I was behind the fitness curve and likely to stay there. I was finding it increasingly difficult to ski, it was certainly less enjoyable. Other cardio dependent activities, like driving race cars, were suffering as well.
Fortunately we were able to move to DVR. My commute dropped from 2 hours per day to 35 minutes. I found I had time on my hands to get a bit more exercise. I started riding mountain bikes in the local hills and my cardio started to come back, a bit. Weight training remained ineffective.
One day I dropped into Fitness Together Dos Vientos Ranch w/ my wife. One hour with the highly trained personal trainers convinced both of us that a good trainer could push us, in a positive sense, where neither of us would go on our own. Even though I considered myself reasonably fit for my age I soon found out how much I could improve.
So now I can ski again, from chutes in Utah to glaciers in Chamonix. I can race in three layers of flame retardant clothing in 105F heat and barely break a sweat, beating people less than half my age. I can ride my mountain bike longer and faster. I've see significant improvement in my resting heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol, posture, and energy. And I even added some muscle, without adding weight. And they said it couldn't be done.

I am the mother of two boys, 4 years and 10 months old. I thought I was happy with the way I looked until I saw a picture of myself and I couldn't believe it. In my mind I thought I was thinner!
Life was just getting busier and busier, and before I knew it the scale kept going in the wrong direction. I knew if I didn't start something soon I would just keep getting worse.

Brigid has gone from being unable do1 full pushup to doing 25 full pushups.

Chris Graham came to Fitness Together, Dos Vientos Ranch in need of a guiding light. She knew she had improvements to make, but the challenge of doing it on her own was daunting. After making the commitment to herself, she enlisted the help of the Personal Training staff and has been ecstatic with the results she has seen. Here is what Chris had to say of her success:
When I decided to make a lifestyle change to focus on getting back in shape, I knew I needed someone to show me the way and keep me motivated. With the help of Fitness Together in Dos Vientos Ranch, a program was designed to help me meet my goals. Kathy and Dan both know when to push me a little bit harder, and it has been that gentle push that encourages results and keeps me coming back for more. Not only have I lost ten pounds, ten inches and three percent bodyfat, but I have increased both my strength and flexibility. I am doing workouts I would not have done on my own and seen my performance help increase my push-up count from zero to twenty-five. I have started running and seen the distance on my golf shots improve tremendously.

I have worked with Bryce and the FT team for over two years. It has been great. It has not been just a physical improvement but a mental one as well. The workouts were key to getting me through one of the worst periods of my life with the lose of my beloved wife in 2008. Fitness Together has helped me to establish/reach fitness, weight, and cardio goals. FT's personal trainer sat down with me to assess my fitness level then worked with me to develop a set of goals. I have been able to increase my cardio ability and set reasonable goals to meet. I have also been able to increase my overall strength which adds to my stamina and feeling of well being. The one piece that really has been essential is the Nutrition Together component. Sitting down with a trainer to discuss how the food I put into my body and the amounts I eat affects my training and overall well-being has been most important. If I am not fueled properly I cannot be effective in my training and weight loss. By learning what things I should be eating to maintain a healthy balance I can train more effectively and reach my weight loss goals.
