I’m 52 years old, and my menstrual cycles stopped about 14 months ago. Although ‘‘the change’’ has been relatively uneventful, I do experience some hot flashes (during the day and at night) and I feel more irritable and moody. I’ve been relatively healthy to this point of my life, and I want to remain healthy for years to come. After consulting with my physician, I have elected not to use hormone therapy. Can exercise benefit me with regard to my HEALTH AND FITNESS?

As we age, sarcopenia makes it much more difficult to perform activities of daily living, such as cleaning and grocery shopping. In addition, sarcopenia puts us at risk for falls and other accidents. Osteoporosis and sarcopenia are linked, because without enough muscle, our bones are not put under the mechanical stress necessary to keep them healthy.
