Motivation during the Holidays

Posted By: Marie on 12/14/2011

Help! Ft world! I'm already getting sucked onto vortex of the Holiday Season! What do u guys do to stay motivated?? I have been out with injury then illness.. Trying to get back n swing of things! Any and all suggestions helpful!!

11/6/11  - Hey!  FT Community..so I need your help!! I have been out with a work related lower back disc issue. My chiropractor (I know..bear with me) told me to lay off working out.
So my question for you is what CAN I do?? I miss the sessions and all the benefits from them.  I am positive there are some FTers, who have lower back issues. SO HELP!!!!  All comments and ideas appreciated!  Thanks, Marie

9/19/11 - NIKE says "JUST DO IT".  My motto is "PUSH".  Why?  In a recent workout at FT, a trainer said that was a good push.  It was encouraging.  It was not just "good job" from a physical stand point but the "push" she was talking about was the mental toughness.  That I pushed myself thru the pain, pushed myself past what I thought I could do. So today, I had a physical fitness assessment.  I am 180 points improved from my last one.  I was hard and painful, but all I kept thinking was PUSH!!!!!!  So eventhough, I left hardly able to walk or lift my arms.when I left.(LOL)  internally I was screaming YES!!!   All this work IS paying off!!  I think "PUSH" is better than "Just do it!"  We can all go thru the motions of the workout or life,,but when we "push" it all becomes much more rewarding!  So THAT is my new motto with LIFE!!  PUSH thru the bad days, PUSH thru the hard times, PUSH thru your hardest workout,  just PUSH..and it seems to me that everything will be better!!  Wait...NIKE is calling....Sorry, boys! Committed to Fitness Together!!

FT definetly will PUSH you - that is for sure. It's hard in the beginning to PUSH through it but when you start to believe in yourself because it becomes something you know you can do.

You probbaly should wait and rest. I've learned that if you come back too early you can worsen the sitution and actually be out longer than if you just rested in the first place.

Unless your doctor said bed rest I wouldn't stop completetly. Ask your doctor what you should avoid and do what you can. Perhaps thats doing more cardio than weights but keep doing something - you don;t want to regress. Exercise may even help your situation.

I pull out some old "biggger" pictures of myself and put them where I can see them. It reminds me of what is more important and how hard I worked to get to where I am.

@Sandy, Matthew, Cammile..Thank you for taking the time to comment! I think you are all correct..rest did improve my back and I have been back at it! Matthew, your advice, was helpful. I would rather do weight training but at this point more cardio is better and obviously getting more weight off will only help the back issue.
@Wendy Yep! Definitely! I also put on clothes from the bigger days, just a reminder I do not want to go down that road again!
