Meet the Owners
Mike Morris & Ross Hadfield
Ross and Mike joined the Fitness Together family because of their passion for fitness. Both worked in the corporate world as engineers and continually shared thoughts about working in the fitness industry together. They spent hours researching different opportunities within the industry, and when they came across Fitness Together, and the chance to open a studio on Newbury Street, the decision to switch careers was easy. Mike and Ross are confident and passionate about the Fitness Together system and have seen first-hand how it can change peoples' lives for the better.
One year after opening their Newbury Street location they opened their Arlington studio and have built an awesome team of trainers at both locations to deliver results for the clients. Most of their clients come to Fitness together because:
-They are not happy with how they look or feel
-They struggle with finding the motivation to workout regularly on their own
-They are sick of getting injured or dealing with nagging pain when exercising on their own
-They are not fully confident with how to integrate proper eating habbits, cardiovascular exercise, and strength training together to maximize results

Ross Hadfield
Co-Owner, NASM-CPT
In 2005 Ross and Mike teamed up to open their two Fitness Together studios with the idea that Ross would focus on the business side of operations while Mike would concentrate on the fitness side. After watching Mike and the Fitness Together team help so many clients achieve many different goals, Ross decided to get more directly involved in making a difference in the lives of their clients.
Ross earned his NASM CPT certification in the spring of 2009 and has enjoyed training and improving people's lives ever since. His hands-on approach has not only brought him closer to the FT clients, but also allowed him to share his lifetime athletic skills and his personal commitment to fitness and health.
Growing up in the Boston area, Ross played lacrosse and football, then went on to play rugby and row crew in college. He regularly enjoys and participates in adventure racing, kayaking, running, biking, and tennis. His own athletic background plus four years in the Fitness Together family have allowed Ross to make a seamless transition from the office to the studio.

Mike Morris
Co-Owner, NASM-CPT, CES
Mike Morris has enjoyed being part of the Fitness Together family for over 5 years. During this time he has learned to appreciate his clients frustrations that bring them in to work with him and his team. Through working with over 400 clients he has learned what works and what doesn't, sorting through the gimmicks and fads that plague the wellness market. He has developed a unique skillset around helping clients of all abilities move more efficiently with less dysfunction which means better performance or less pain. His abilities have grabbed the attention of some of the best chiropractors and massage therapists in the area who refer to Mike because of his abilities. His science-based approach to nutrition has also helped hundreds of clients change the way they look and feel about themselves and eating.
In 2002 Mike was forced to take a step back from playing competitive rugby and redefine his goals when a knee surgery kept him on crutches for three months and away from competing for eight months. He spent countless hours on rehabilitation, motivated to be mentally and physically stronger than before. This experience helped Mike affirm that everyone needs to understand his or her source of motivation when undertaking the challenge of a workout regimen, no matter who you are or what your background is.
Mike is a Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. This unique combination allows Mike to understand the body’s complex skeletal and muscular systems, making it easy to communicate and teach the specific exercises necessary to meet his clients’ goals.
When not working at either of his two Fitness Together studios, Mike trains to be a competitive adventure racer, runner, kayaker, and expert-class mountain bike racer, thriving on the demanding challenges of these sports. He has completed 35+ mile mountain marathons, raced his way across Costa Rica for 5 days straight, and has been to the national championships for Adventure Racing. Mike knows first-hand how rewarding it can be to reach a goal and he strives to create an equally rewarding training experience for his clients based on what their needs and capabilities are. Mike recently married his wife Shonda (also part of the FT team!) and they are expecting their first child in October of 2010!

Clifton Verdieu
NASM-CPT
The term "use it or lose it," is not just a catchy expression for Clifton, but a philosophy that applies to his life. After receiving an exercise physiology degree at the University of Massachusetts Boston, Clifton worked as a shift supervisor at a health club in a hotel where he was responsible for administrative work, personal training, and teaching abdominal classes. Unfortunately there was not a strong emphasis on personal training which Clifton is most passionate about. He wasn't fully utilizing the knowledge gained from his degree nor was he doing what he enjoys the most: motivating people to maximize their full potential while achieving their best possible fitness shape.
"In my opinion, there's nothing more fulfilling than being the primary factor in helping someone to progress from just living a lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle. This awesome feeling can be compared to a teacher watching a student develop right before their eyes from a good student to the best student that they can possible be. That's what lead me to Fitness Together, because it provides an environment where I myself can maximize my full potential as trainer in helping people achieving their fitness potential."
Clifton understands that sticking to a healthy lifestyle can be difficult at times and knows that his role as a personal trainer can help with this. He recently completed the 2010 Boston Marathon and can't wait for his next one!

Kate Vlahakis
NSCA-CPT
Kate graduated with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a minor in health and exercise science from St. Lawrence University. Kate competed as a collegiate basketball player and since graduating has competed in numerous sprint triathlons. She has spent three seasons as the Assistant Basketball Coach as Simmons College, where she is responsible for all of the strength and conditioning of her team. She is well educated in nutrition and believes that is crucial to achieving a healthy lifestyle.
“I believe that anybody can achieve their maximum fitness potential starting with small life changes. I love to see the results from day to day and month to month in not only the physical appearance of clients but also in their confidence and overall excitement about how great they feel. I am a motivator; I have a passion to push people to achieve goals and raise the bar for them to want more. With client specific training programs, nutritional education, and a mindset to achieve great success, I believe all people have the ability to reach their optimum level of health and fitness.”
Kate is certified in personal training through the NSCA, and is currently pursuing further certifications through NASM and the NSCA as well as a Masters degree in Sports Leadership from Northeastern University. In her free time Kate enjoys playing basketball, surfing, and running. She completed a major goal of running the 2010 Boston Marathon. Kate is a big fan of the Yankees (she loves watching baseball) and peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Jose Santos
Jose graduated with a degree in Exercise Health Science from the University of Massachusetts-Boston and is currently pursuing certifications through NASM and ACSM. He’s had extensive experience training with people of all fitness levels having worked with collegiate athletes at Northeastern University’s Strength and Conditioning Center, weekend warriors at the Wang YMCA in Boston, as well as with people with disabilities at the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, MA.
Jose believes in a balanced lifestyle of being able to enjoy the things you do while making sure you still get your regular physical activity and a nutritious diet to back it up. Moderation is the key.
When he’s not training at the studio or working out, Jose enjoys training in various martial arts, bmx and mountain bike riding, snowboarding, as well as playing guitar and piano. Jose is excited to work with everyone at Fitness Together!
